Telltale, the studio known for its narrative-driven games with choices and consequences, was also the studio behind the cult hit crossover game, Poker Night at the Inventory. The 2010-released game and its sequel have been delisted from stores since 2019, going dark alongside many other Telltale games as the studio shut down. Now, a surprise remaster has been announced for the original game.
Taking the same name, the Poker Night at the Inventory remaster will have players once again entering a Texas Hold"em tournament against some familiar faces. Even the Team Fortress 2 companion items are returning for players to earn and use inside Valve"s game.
"The game pits Max (the irreverent rabbity-thing from Sam & Max), Strong Bad (of Homestar Runner fame), Tycho (from the long-running Penny Arcade webcomic), and Team Fortress 2 mercenary The Heavy in a fast-paced poker tournament punched up with jokey trash-talk," describes the remaster"s developer, Skunkape Games.
The studio is made up of former Telltale developers, who are bringing back the original with overhauled graphics and animations, gameplay improvements to shake up the poker simulation, and fresh unlockables. This is the same team that"s responsible for the recent Sam & Max remastered trilogy.
"The team stripped Poker Night’s original poker code down to parts, scraped the gunk away, and rebuilt it better than new," adds the developer. "Poker Night at the Inventory now plays a far more accurate game of poker, and your opponents will make more informed decisions that better fit their play style and personality."
The Team Fortress 2 items from the original game are about to get a lot less rare with this release. This means the return of the Iron Curtain, Enthusiast’s Timepiece, Crimestomper Combo, and the Dangeresque, Too, without needing to jump through any Steam hoops. Just like before, earning these involves winning at poker whenever an NPC puts one of their special items into the pot.
The Poker Night at the Inventory remaster is landing on March 5, 2026. Alongside Steam, it"s also coming to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for the first time.
