Samsung unveils revolutionary 200MP camera sensor

Samsung has made some strides in camera technology, with the company announcing its latest 200MP camera sensor, which is revolutionary in many aspects. The ISOCELL HP5 is a smaller 1/1.56-inch camera sensor than its predecessor, with each pixel measuring just 0.5µm, compared to 0.56µm in the ISOCELL HP3.

Although the science behind pixel size is that if the surface area of a pixel decreases, so does the amount of light it can receive. This typically reduces image quality, but Samsung has worked around this problem through technologies like Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) and Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG), which increase the maximum amount of electrons an image sensor can hold before becoming saturated, a quantity measured as the Full Well Capacity (FWC). It combines this result with the DTI center cut (DCC) technology for "conversion gain enhancements", which results in an overall brighter image.

Additionally, the ISOCELL HP5 leverages a High Transmittance Anti-refractive Layer, which ensures that the least amount of light is reflected and the maximum amount is captured by each pixel.

Samsung claims that it has effectively "re-engineered" pixels through this process by maximizing their light reception. This sensor works well in both low-light and well-lit environments, with the sensor offering 2x in-sensor zoom on a wide-angle lens and 6x zoom on a 3x telephoto lens. It also packs better HDR support, along with AI processes that can process a 200MP image in less than two seconds. Furthermore, it is capable of recording videos at 30 fps @8K resolution, 120 fps @4K, 480 fps @FHD (without AutoFocus, though).

SamMobile claims that the ISOCELL HP5 sensor is expected to be used in the upcoming Oppo Find X9 Pro, along with other Chinese handsets. However, the technology is not anticipated in Samsung"s own Galaxy handsets, which is rather interesting, to say the least.
