Someone tested iPhone 17's charging speeds with different Apple chargers

The iPhone 17 was launched earlier this month as part of Apple"s latest hardware refresh, which includes the hard-to-bend iPhone Air and a $2,000 iPhone 17 Pro Max. As we discussed in our Specs Appeal article, Apple has made several improvements to the battery life and charging performance of its latest iPhones.

The regular iPhone 17 now offers video playback of up to 30 hours on a full charge, delivering eight hours of extra battery juice compared to the iPhone 16. The device can fuel up from zero to 50% in just 20 minutes with Apple"s new "40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max" or higher.

That said, you may wonder how the device performs when paired with various Apple-made and third-party adapters. ChargerLAB took the pain of testing the iPhone 17"s charging speeds and compatibility with multiple adapters. Here"s a roundup of the different output wattages they were able to get:

Charger Output
Apple 18W 17.36W
Apple 20W 19W
Apple 87W 24.70W
Apple 29W 27.51W
Apple 35W Dual USB-C 27.59W
Apple 35W Dual USB-C Compact 27.65W
Apple 140W 27.68W
Apple 30W 27.70W
Apple 70W 28.11W
Apple 67W 28.16W
Apple 61W 28.17W
Apple 96W 28.18W
Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max 28.34W
MagSafe Charger 29.11W

The data suggests that the iPhone 17 can reach peak charging speeds of around 27W to 28W; however, the actual performance on your device may vary slightly. For comparison, it"s slightly higher than the 22W to 23W charging speeds recorded for the iPhone 16. Apple says that the iPhone 16 can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes using a compatible charger.

One thing to note is that you need a compatible USB-C cable, such as the one shipped with the device, to achieve the fastest charging speeds. While the MagSafe Charger delivered 29W during the test, Apple states that it offers fast wireless charging of up to 25W with a 30W adapter (or faster), which makes sense when used for an extended period.

With a starting price tag of $799, the iPhone 17 features several notable upgrades this year, including a 120Hz ProMotion Display, a 256GB base configuration, a reworked rear camera system, and the Apple N1 wireless chip. It comes pre-installed with the iOS 26 update, which introduces the Liquid Glass design language and a range of features and changes across various apps.
