During all the pomp and show of the 'Awe Dropping' event, you might have missed a small but useful update Apple shared in the fine print. The iPhone-maker has announced the release date of its newest pack of Liquid Glass-based operating systems.

Apple has picked September 15 (Monday) as the release date for all of its operating systems, including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, watchOS 26, visionOS 26, and tvOS 26. The company has updated the individual web pages for each of these operating systems to reflect the release date, and also mentioned the same in its official press releases.

A September 15 release date means that older devices, which Apple no longer sells, will receive the latest updates before the iPhone 17 series and other new devices go on sale on September 19.

For the uninitiated, Apple unveiled its latest OS upgrades at the WWDC developer conference in June this year. The new software upgrades bring a fresh coat of paint in the form of Liquid Glass, which streamlines the user interface across iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and even Apple TV.

Apple describes Liquid Glass as "a new translucent material that reflects and refracts its surroundings, bringing greater focus to content, and delivering a new level of vitality across controls, navigation, app icons, widgets, and more."

For Windows users, Liquid Glass is a reminder of the glass-like user interface Microsoft added to the long-gone Windows Vista. However, Apple faced backlash when users saw Liquid Glass for the first time, eventually forcing the company to make some changes.

Another significant change you'll notice this year is that Apple has jumped version numbers of its operating systems. While you might have waited for iOS 19, all of Apple's operating systems now carry the version number "26," and there are enough reasons why this unexpected change makes sense.

For those running the beta versions all along, Apple has pushed the Release Candidate (RC) builds of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and other operating systems. As the name suggests, these are pre-release versions that represent the final version before the software is officially released. Apple has already published the official lists of supported iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs, on which you can install the latest operating systems.
