Sony has just unveiled two new PS5 console and DualSense controller designs based on the game Ghost of Yōtei. The two designs are “Gold Limited Edition” and “Black Limited Edition”. With both bundles you get a PS5 Slim console with a disc drive, matching DualSense controller, and a digital copy of Ghost of Yōtei Standard Edition with pre-order content.
The “Gold Limited Edition” will be available globally, but the “Black Limited Edition” is a direct.playstation.com exclusive and only available in limited regions. These editions of the PlayStation have a Japanese art feel to them so if you’re into that, you’ll definitely like these offerings.
According to Sony, the “Gold Limited Edition” design is based on kintsugi, a Japanese art where broken pottery is repaired with gold; it’s supposed to symbolize the beauty in imperfection and resilience. Meanwhile, the inspiration for the “Black Limited Edition” is Sumi-e, a traditional Japanese black ink painting, which represents the land’s beauty and mystery, while also representing the inner struggle of protagonist Atsu.
Another notable design decision is that both consoles feature a special maker’s seal engraved with PlayStation shapes on the back of the console’s top cover as well as on the DualSense Wireless controllers.
Both of these console bundles are scheduled for release on October 2nd, the same day that Ghost of Yōtei releases. If you already own a PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro and like the designs of these new bundles, there’s no need to buy a new console, instead you can buy Ghost of Yōtei “Gold Limited Edition” Console Covers online and apply them to your existing PS5. Regarding the DualSense controllers, Sony says you’ll be able to buy them separately.
Ghost of Yōtei is an upcoming game from Sucker Punch. It’s a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima and focuses on protagonist Atsu’s “tale of vengeance” in Ezo (Hokkaido). Pre-orders for the console will be available soon, pricing is still to be revealed.
