Sony and Santa Monica Studio are celebrating the 20th birthday of God of War this year, and while a new game is not on the cards, a new piece of hardware is incoming. During the State of Play presentation today, Sony unveiled the God of War 20th Anniversary limited edition DualSense controller with a unique design. It even received a trailer, which can be seen above.
The controller is purely white for the most part, but its red accent that goes along the right faceplate and reaches over to the right bumper and trigger should be familiar to any God of War fan. Turning it around, "God of War 20th Anniversary" can be found printed on the back of the controller.
As expected, Sony says the design is inspired by series protagonist Kratos himself, with his "ashen skin and scarlet tattoo" being the highlight here.
"No matter which God of War game you’re playing, the shape of his red ink against the gray of his ash-covered skin is one of the most iconic elements of Kratos’ look across both Greek and Norse sagas," says Associate Art Director Dela Longfish from Santa Monica Studio. "Our team made sure to represent both of these key tones in the color selection for the controller to make every aspect an authentic homage to the design that has defined Kratos for over two decades."
Aside from the exclusive color scheme, the functionality of the controller and its internals remain the same as a regular DualSense. This means it features haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that are used by various titles to increase immersion, a built-in mic and speaker, a touchpad and light bar, and even gyro input for supported games.
"We hope fans enjoy the controller and can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support you’ve shown Santa Monica Studio over the years!" adds Longfish.
The DualSense wireless controller – God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition will be available for pre-order directly from Sony starting on October 3. This will cost $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99 / ¥12,480. An exact release date has not been announced just yet.
