Super Mario Bros. 2 and Kirby's Adventure join Nintendo Switch Online next week

It"s a new month, and Nintendo is once again adding a couple of new titles to its collection of Nintendo Entertainment System games on the Switch Online service. This month"s additions are part of the company"s more popular franchises, Mario and Kirby.

The first entry is Super Mario Bros. 2, which is actually not the original sequel to the well-known Super Mario Bros. The international release of the game is an adaptation of Doki Doki Panic, as Nintendo deemed the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 to be too difficult for other audiences. This title features noticeably different mechanics from the original Mario adventure, putting a bigger emphasis on vertically-scrolling stages as well as changing other basic mechanics of the game.

The second addition is Kirby"s Adventure, the first game in the Kirby franchise on a home console. This meant that it had colors for the first time, which the Game Boy couldn"t offer, and it also marked the debut of Kirby"s infamous copy ability, which allows the character to absorb enemies and take their powers.

Both of these titles will arrive on the Nintendo Switch on February 13, a week from today. Nintendo has typically added special versions of some titles as well, making them easier to beat or offering a different kind of challenge. These additions are often a surprise, though, so you"ll need to wait some time to know what the firm has cooked up.
