Microsoft rolls out Windows 11 version 25H2 in Release Preview

Windows 11 version 25H2 is one step closer to its public release, with the update today becoming available in the Release Preview Channel of the Windows Insider Program.

Windows 11 version 25H2

Windows 11 version 25H2 is getting closer to its public release later this year. A couple of months ago, Microsoft confirmed that version 25H2 would be released in 2025, and now, the operating system is on its final test ring ahead of the launch.

If you are a Windows 11 Release Preview insider, you can download version 25H2 (build 26200.5074) in "seeker" mode. That means you must head to Settings > Windows Update and manually click "Check for Updates." Windows 11 will show you a banner that version 25H2 is now available. Click "Download and Install."

Unlike Windows 11 version 24H2, which was a full OS update, version 25H2 is available as an enablement package. It shares the same servicing branch as version 24H2. This means the two operating systems will receive the same features as part of Microsoft's effort to deliver new features and improvements on a monthly basis.

In addition to new features, Windows 11 version 25H2 will remove certain things from the operating system. For example, PowerShell 2.0 is no longer with us, and Microsoft is removing the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line. Additionally, the company allows IT admins to uninstall more stock applications using Group Policy/MDM CSP on Enterprise/EDU devices.

In addition to releasing Windows 11 version 25H2 to regular users in the Release Preview Channel, Microsoft is offering the update to commercial users. Businesses can begin testing the upcoming update through Windows Update for Business (WUfB) and Windows Server Update Service (WSUS). Version 25H2 will become available on Azure Marketplace later today. As for ISOs, Microsoft promises to release images for clean installation next week, so look out for them on the official Windows Insider website.
