Windows Phone 7.8 to hit in Q1 2013 ?

It’s been a hectic month for Microsoft with all their launches – Windows 8, Windows RT, Surface RT, Windows Phone 8 – Office 2013 hitting RTM, not to mention senior execs departing. However there’s still one product that needs to launch and we haven’t heard anything about it yet.

We’re talking about Windows Phone 7.8, the update that brings the new Start Screen and maybe a few other features, to the old Windows Phone 7 devices. While we still don’t actually know what will be bundled with this update we knew from the start it would come after the launch of Windows Phone 8 and the new devices that go with it.

Now that that has happened users are starting to wonder when this new update will hit. Unfortunately you still have to wait awhile as this isn’t very high on Microsoft’s priority list. Our best guess was that the update would launch somewhere in Q1 of 2013 and now Windows Phone Brazil seems to confirm that guess.

They responded to a curious user on Twitter and stated that Windows Phone 7.8 is expected in Brazil in Q1 of next year. Of course there may be delays and different launch dates depending on region and carrier approval.

So depending on where you live you may still have a long time to wait before you finally see this update on your phone. And of course we"ll first see it on new devices such the Lumia 510. On the other hand you can just grab one of the new Windows Phones that brings so much chocolaty goodness.
