Xperia Z4 said to be exclusive to Japan, global flagship expected to launch in May

Sony"s latest high-end smartphone, the Xperia Z4, might not be launched outside of the company"s home country if a new report is to be believed.

Earlier today, in a rather low profile event in Japan, Sony launched the Xperia Z4 smartphone. It was revealed a few months ago that the company would launch a single flagship in 2015 and continue to focus on giving better support for devices which resulted in Sony skipping the launch during MWC 2015.

According to a report from Russian website Hi-tech Mail, the Z4 might not be a global flagship and it will be available only in Japan. It also mentions that another flagship smartphone will be launched towards the end of May for other markets. It is unclear whether this said device will be a variant of the Z4 with minor changes or will be entirely different and carry a new moniker as well.

The Xperia Z4 that was launched today retained most of the hardware specifications of its predecessor except for the Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, Adreno 430 graphics chip and a 5 megapixel front camera, which are quite similar to the current top smartphones from other vendors.

At this point, the existence of the global flagship is just speculation but we will know for sure towards the end of May if it is true.
