This isn't about the forum lite skin but rather the news page (front page) lite skin:

I was checking the file size of the standard/full news page (18.49 KB (18930 bytes) ) then checked the size of the lite news page ( 40.83 KB (41814 bytes) ). That's right--the 'lite' page's HTML is actually ~2x the download size of the standard page.

The problem apparently is that the standard/full page has gzip enabled but the lite page doesn't. So my suggestion is, enable gzip for the html/news-lite pages. :)

Yeah, I find the lite to be slower, Im using opera and have cable internet.

maybe the gzip enabling would help.

Are you referring to the main page, or the forum theme? The forum theme is slimed down quite a bit, so I don't see how it could be slowed. Plus, gzip is on, anyways :)

Question:

Are you also counting the size of the images in the 18.49 KB number that you cane up with? Because that's part of it too.... There's a big difference in size in the Neowin logo alone...

I think you may have forgetten that part of it when doing the math... =)

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
