Missouri teen describes killing girl, 9, as ?enjoyable? experience _ before heading to church

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. ? A Missouri teenager who admitted stabbing, strangling and slitting the throat of a young neighbor girl wrote in her journal on the night of the killing that it was an ?ahmazing? and ?pretty enjoyable? experience ? then headed off to church with a laugh.

The words written by Alyssa Bustamante were read aloud in court Monday as part of a sentencing hearing to determine whether she should get life in prison or something less for the October 2009 murder of her neighbor, 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten, in a small town west of Jefferson City.

Bustamante, 18, sat silently ? occasionally glancing at those testifying about her, often looking down or to the side ? as law enforcement officers, attorneys and forensics experts read aloud her inner most thoughts that she had recorded as a 15-year-old high school sophomore.

The most poignant part of Monday?s testimony came when a handwriting expert described how he was able to see through the blue ink that Bustamante had used in an attempt to cover up her original journal entry on the night of Elizabeth?s murder. He then read the entry aloud in court:

?I just f------ killed someone. I strangled them and slit their throat and stabbed them now they?re dead. I don?t know how to feel atm. It was ahmazing. As soon as you get over the ?ohmygawd I can?t do this? feeling, it?s pretty enjoyable. I?m kinda nervous and shaky though right now. Kay, I gotta go to church now...lol.?

The journal entry was presented to the judge not long after Elizabeth?s mother and other relatives pleaded with Cole County Circuit Judge Pat Joyce to impose the maximum sentence. Bustamante pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action last month and faces at most a sentence of life in prison with a chance for parole. The least she could get is 10 years.

In Australia a law was written for a particular criminal that ensures he can never leave until he is dead. Don't remember his name but I'll try find him.

EDIT: Nope, I was wrong. Apparently they just changed the state law to make life imprisonment without parole possible and retroactively applied it to the criminal in question. Also, this guy is serving 35 years + 1,035 years (LOL) without parole: http://en.wikipedia....i/Martin_Bryant

A life-time sentence please. She's a psychopath.

I agree with life in prison, but she's clearly not a Psychopath, Psychopaths don't feel emotion the same way we do and always work to 'get what they want' by manipulating others. Unless she was craving Life in Prison, she wouldn't have done this. She's just really twisted!

EDIT: Sorry, saw an episode of House with a Psychopath a while ago so I bought a book on it. Very interesting read.

With the exception of working to get what they want, I would say that she could still be classed as a psychopath. She clearly doesn't feel emotion the same way others do as she found a sense of joy and excitement from killing rather than feelings of remorse.

Thinking a bit more, you could even stretch and say that she was working towards getting what she wanted. She wanted to kill someone and she did it, regardless of the consequences.

Too dangerous to be let out again tbh... Because I do not see how she could become a useful member to society, other than causing harm and grief to others. (That being said... maybe it's a Medical Mystery that no one knows yet)

Technically she's not a serial killer because she only killed once, but further reading through old articles reveals she hsd dug 2 graves before hand. Hmmmm....

At this point she would be classified a 'thrill killer,' which has no particular associated psychopathy. Examples would be the 2 college killers depicted in the Hitchcock film Rope or the young girls in the Peter Jackson film Heavenly Creatures.

man have they drag this story on while i agree with life without parole the teen was not mentally right to begian with

She previously attempted suicide and was a cutter. Defense attorneys highlighted her troubled childhood as part of their argument about why she should receive leniency

also

On Oct. 14, one week before Elizabeth's slaying, Bustamante had written that she was unable to use her cell phone because the charger had died, which meant she couldn't talk to anyone about the depression and rage she was feeling.

also

describing her suicidal feelings and the urge to hurt herself and others

Juvenile justice officials testified at an earlier hearing that Bustamante had attempted to commit suicide in 2007 and had been receiving mental health treatment for depression and cutting herself.

This is all I want in life; a reason for all this pain sorry but to me that sound like she was crying for help and at the end of her rope

Nope,

This is where the death penalty should DEFINITELY be invoked, regardless of age, in this case!! Maybe keep them in jail until of legal age, then fry them!!

When you KNOW you're dead right on the fact person is guilty, fry 'em!! I don't want to be supporting them for the rest of my life!!

Edit:

Had to double check age of people involved. Nope, fry 'em now, in this case!!

That doesn't forgive her for her actions. It just proves that she was unstable long before she killed the 9-year-old.

which is why i can't blame her 100% for her actions she was in no way in the right mindset to begian with

Im confused I thought cause she commited the sentence as a minor she would have been trialled as one and I thought they got released at 18 or atleast moved to a mental ward or summin? someone explain please?

nope she was tried as adult and that going as far back as 2009

jeez dude grow up out of anything blame 50% on her and 50% for the incorrect medical help she was getting sorry but i been following this story for a while and for a teen who was only on prozac it was not enough jeez if you ask me they didn't do enough.

this happened for one reason because Alyssa was not properly medicated. She had only been taking Prozac and back then, that's all they had. If she would have added a few more meds to her regimen, she would have not done this.

She was depressed

IMO she isnt the only one to blame here... where were her parents to get her help? where were her friends? she talked about being depressed and tried to kill her self she must of been majorly ignored ?!?

where were her parents to get her help?

i agree with this but have no idea if she was getting help before or after she was caught

but Bustamante had attempted to commit suicide in 2007 and had been receiving mental health treatment for depression and cutting herself. which means she was getting help but it was not enough.

where were her friends? i like to know this one to

she talked about being depressed and tried to kill her self she must of been majorly ignored

bingo she was being ignored when it was really needed relating the parents i wouldn't put it passed them to see it being a phase or it being more of ok she on medication we let that run it course

and trust me 90% of teen probley higher will not open up or know how to hide there true self from there parents

This is a clear sign of being a psychopath.. She needs to locked away for life. That's here below, look at her wrist

really?! in this day and age i see that as acting out emo and goth wise not everyone dye there hair and crap and pictures of Bustamante have nothing in this

the teen was crying for help underneth and wasn't getting it and the medical she was on i have no idea if she was on before or after she got caught failed her

also if she was seeing somone about her sucidal feeling then yea they didnt do enough

STOP PUTTING THE BLAME 100% ON HER IT PATHETIC
