Today, Alientrap.org released version 2.3 of the open source ego-shooter Nexuiz, available for Linux, MacOS X 10.4 and up as well as Windows.

What is Nexuiz?

It is a free software game released under the GPL, built on the Darkplaces engine - a heavily modified Quake I engine. The aim of the game is to bring the ego-shooter game back to the basics - instead of storylines it focuses on quick, actionladen, lethal battles. The focus is on multiplayer games; however a single-player campaign is included as well.

While Nexuiz is not intended to be an eye-candy laden game, it does however feature many advanced effects such as coronas, bloom, Realtime World and Dynamic Lighting and shadowing, shaders (with OpenGL 2.0), offset mapping, and High dynamic range rendering. All these effects can be turned off to make the game run on older hardware. Nexuiz has such a range of effects that enabling all of them would result in an unplayable experience, apart from on the most cutting-edge of hardware.

Version 2.3 brings massive improvements in performance thanks to an engine overhaul, yet features even more and prettier eye-candy. Moreover, the online experience is enhanced by the new netcode, which also feels safer as 2.3 sports an anti-wallhack function.

      If Ford would stop hiring SUITS to run the company, and put CAR GUYS back in charge perhaps they could do better. Heck, the only CAR they produce today is the Mustang. Hey Ford! Not everyone needs/wants an overpriced SUV or pickup truck that is so tall you have to have a step ladder to get in and out of it.

      Amazing how some will just jump all over something. Probably the same people that thought Musk was a "tech god" before he saddled up with "bad orange man". Before, they worshiped at his feet, including a lot of so called hollywood types. Now, because he fell off the plantation truck, they toss him under the bus.
