BRYAN SINGER AND MATTHEW VAUGHN UNITE FOR X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Twentieth Century Fox will release film on June 3, 2011

LOS ANGELES (May 4, 2010) __ "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn will helm X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, a new chapter in Twentieth Century Fox's blockbuster series of films based on the Marvel Comics.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS begins production this summer for a June 3, 2011 release. Bryan Singer, who conceived the story for FIRST CLASS and directed the original "X-Men" and its sequel "X2," is producing along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

"I've been a fan of Matthew's since LAYER CAKE," said Singer. "He has a deft hand with multiple characters and storylines, and a great love of the X-Men universe. I feel the combination of this story and his vision will make for an exciting and original X-Men film."

Added Twentieth Century Fox president of production, Emma Watts: ?X-Men: First Class presents an exciting opportunity to further explore the history and relationships of these beloved characters. Matthew's combination of talent, verve and vision is perfectly suited to the task.?

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known.

Now that Fox has announced a June 3, 2011, date for "X-Men: First Class," which it's seeing as a J.J. Abrams "Star-Trek"-style reboot of the X-franchise, the studio is going to have to move lickity-split to get the movie shot and in postproduction if it wants to release it on time.

There is reason to believe, however, that preliminary casting may have already begun.

Bryan Singer was to have directed "First Class" but is instead focusing on "Jack the Giant Killer." But he stayed on "First Class" as a producer and is committed to being very involved in steering the movie. Singer has been meeting with young actors to star in "Giant Killer," which needs its young farmer Jack and princess, among others. The filmmaker is eyeing a summer shoot in England for the big-budget special-effects-laden retelling of the classic fairy tale.

Word among the Hollywood community is that Singer has been using "Giant Killer's" casting process as an opportunity to look for potential X-Men, vetting actors who may be qualified to play a young Cyclops or young Jean Grey.

In a way, he is casting two movies simultaneously and earning the title of multitasker of the month.

Goldman Also Working on the X-Men: First Class Script

Last week, it was made official that Matthew Vaughn is going to direct X-Men: First Class for 20th Century Fox. It was revealed then that Thor co-writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz would do a few rewrites on the script with plans to start making the movie this summer for a June 3, 2011 release.

It looks like they won't be the only ones working on the script, however. Jonathan Ross tweeted today that his wife, Jane Goldman "is away writing X Men 4 so I am off to bed with little Sweeney alone." We're pretty sure Ross meant "First Class," as Goldman co-wrote the scripts for Stardust and Kick-Ass with Vaughn. She also co-produced the latter.

We're guessing Vaughn, Goldman, Miller and Stentz are all working together to lock down the shooting script so that they can get going considering the release date next summer.

To be honest, it will :p Sorry for smashing your dreams, haha

if anything he'll pop up at the end in a picture or something, don't think Wolverine won't be mentioned at all because he will be...probably won't be jackman though or if its a picture it might be.

Well, I meant that Wolverine wont be in this movie as an actual member of the team. That's because I keep thinking they're gonna go the X-Men: First Class (2006) route. And if you go check that member list, you don't see Wolverine in it.

Though on the other hand, they could put him in this movie if they're going the Uncanny route, then there's a good chance that Wolverine will be in it. Plus it could have Colossus in it as well. That team pretty much owns and could be really interesting for a movie.

James McAvoy has signed on to play a young Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, in ?X-Men: First Class,? which Matthew Vaughn is directing for Fox.

According to Fox, ?First Class? will ?chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.?

Patrick Stewart played the character, a bald-headed, wheelchair-bound telepath, in the original "X-Men" trilogy. Fox did not reveal if McAvoy will sport a follicle-free pate.

Fox is moving fast on the production, hiring Vaughn in early May and planning a summer start in London. The movie is being planned for a June 3, 2011, release.

Bryan Singer, who conceived the story for ?First Class,? is producing along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

McAvoy already has comic book movie experience, having starred in ?Wanted.? The British actor was last seen in ?The Last Station.?

According to Roger Friedman at Showbiz411..

He?s being pursued, I hear, for two different Marvel comics movies. Matthew Vaughn is said to want him for ?X Men: First Class.? Fassbender would play young Magneto[though Friedman says Xavier here, I assume its a momentary brain fart!], played in the first three films by Ian McKellen.

At the same time, Fassbender is being pursued to play the villain in ?Spider Man 4,? aka ?No Toby Maguire Here.?

Rosamund Pike, the British actress who appeared most recently in Surrogates may be playing Emma Frost, aka the White Queen in next summer's X-Men: First Class, according to a story at Forces of Geek.

According to the site, Pike has been spotted in the offices of X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn's casting director and also seen carrying Emma Frost comic books.

Casting rumors for the film are pouring in with, just earlier today, Michael Fassbender rumored to be in the running for the part of Magneto. With shooting set to begin in just a few months, it shouldn't be long before Fox offers official confirmation.

Amber Heard is the latest actress to be linked to X-Men: First Class.

According to Production Weekly, 20th Century Fox has "strong interest" in recruiting the Joneses star to play Mystique in director Matthew Vaughn's prequel. Rebecca Romijn portrayed the character in the first three X-Men movies.

Apparently Rosamund Pike is in the running to play Charles Xavier's assistant Moira MacTaggert. MacTaggert appeared briefly in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and was played by Olivia Williams. Rumours emerged last week connecting Pike to the part of Emma Frost.

Inglourious Basterds star Michael Fassbender has reportedly declined an offer to screen test for villain Magneto. James McAvoy is the only confirmed cast member, playing a younger version of Sir Patrick Stewart's Xavier.

X-Men: First Class is scheduled to open in cinemas on June 3, 2011.

Showbiz411 is reporting that Benjamin Walker (star of the Public Theater?s ?Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson? has been cast as r. Henry Philip ?Hank? McCoy (aka Beast) in Matthew Vaughn?s X-Men: First Class. The character was played by Kelsey Grammer in X-Men: The Last Stand.

Here is more information on Beast from Wikipedia:

When first introduced, the Beast ? a mutant ? possesses ape-like superhuman physical strength and agility and oversized hands and feet, though he otherwise appears to be a normal human being. Throughout his history, the Beast undergoes progressive transformations to his physiognomy, permanently gaining increasingly animalistic physical characteristics. These include blue fur, feline facial features, pointed ears, fangs, and claws. His physical power increases to even greater levels, as do his senses.

Despite his savage appearance, he is a brilliant man of the arts and sciences; he is a world authority on biochemistry and genetics, the X-Men?s medical doctor, and the science and mathematics instructor at the Xavier Institute (the X-Men?s headquarters and school for young mutants). He is also a mutant political activist. Fighting his bestial instincts and fears of social rejection, the Beast dedicates his physical and mental gifts to the creation of a better world for man and mutant. He also has a witty sense of humor.

Henry?s mutation more fully manifests during adolescence, providing greater strength and agility, and although his powers allow him to briefly excel in athletics during his remaining time at school, he soon attracts the animosity of his fellow students and other non-mutant humans. As he seeks refuge, he is approached by Professor Charles Xavier, who invites him to study at ?Xavier?s School for Gifted Youngsters?. Henry recognizes the opportunities such an institution can offer him and accepts the offer. He finds the school both a fount of scientific knowledge and a place of sanctuary and is there introduced to the X-Men, who accept him into their ranks and give him the codename Beast. Alongside workouts in the Danger Room, under Xavier?s tutelage, he studies subjects ranging from differential equations to Proust. With the rest of the X-Men on their first field mission, he battles Magneto for the first time.

Walker?s work includes portraying Kinsey (at age 19) in Kinsey, and Harlon Block in Flags of Our Fathers. Walker was also featured in the short-lived CBS drama series 3 lbs. Walker?s theatre credits include The Arrangements at the Atlantic Theatre (NYC in 2005), Spring Awakening ( NYC in 2005), Lady Windermere?s Fan (Williamstown Theatre in 2005), and Romeo and Juliet (Williamstown Theatre in 2006).

Michael Fassbender Joins X-Men: First Class Official

Are you guys ready for some interesting X Men: First Class casting news? Ok then, check this out: Benjamin Walker, star of the Public Theater?s ?Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,? is going to play Beast, the character played in X Men 3 by Kelsey Grammer.

He?ll be joining the cast that already includes James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

We had a chance to hear that the Inglourious Basterds star was in talks to play Magneto, but now, it?s official!

And although the exact plot of X-Men: First Class is still not known, there are already rumors saying it will ?concern the younger versions of the X-Men and most likely focus on recruitment of younger mutants and the first team to be assembled.

It will also have to show the development of the team and eventual rift between Xavier and Magneto which leads to them becoming arch enemies and sets up the events of later X-Men films.?

On the other hand, we all know that this movie will be directed by Matthew Vaughn, and that it?s based on the script which was written by Josh Schwartz and Jamie Moss. It?s scheduled to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.

James McAvoy has already signed as a younger professor Charles Xavier, character that was previously played by Patrick Stewart in first three movies from this franchise.

Other rumored but unconfirmed names are Amber Heard as Mystique, Rosamund Pike as Moira MacTaggart and Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson for an unknown part.

Liking the cast so far. James McAvoy as Xavier is going to be interesting if you ask me. Also, my guess for Aaron Johnson is that he's going to play Cyclops or Iceman. My highest bet is placed on Cyclops though :p

With "X-Men: First Class" set for a summer 2011 release date, we're at a place in the film's development when the casting rumors sprout like weeds in the cracks on Hollywood studio lots.

Just a few weeks ago, Internet whispers had it that Rosamund Pike ("Surrogates") was up for the role of telepathic mutant Emma Frost. But now it seems Marvel has found its blond mind-reader: Alice Eve.

The 24-year-old British actress had her breakout turn earlier this year in "She's Out of My League" opposite Jay Baruchel and is now in negotiations to join the growing "X-Men" cast, according to Deadline Hollywood.

MTV News' requests for comment were not returned by Eve's representatives as of press time.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass"), "X-Men: First Class" has already lined up Michael Fassbender ("Inglourious Basterds") as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X and Benjamin Walker ("Flags of Our Fathers") as Hank "Beast" McCoy. Eve becomes the second actress to play Frost onscreen, following Tahyna Tozzi's turn as the character near the end of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." In Marvel comics, Frost was originally a villain named the White Queen, who joined up with the X-Men and became a teacher at their school for mutant children.

    • It saddens me when cars are such dull colours now. Mine is bright metallic blue and I absolutely adore it for standing out in contrast to that depressing backdrop of traffic.
