the thing is it will break add-ons quicker... hope they have a new system for that that allows the older ones to work easier....

It's just the Firefox 5.0 candidate, perhaps not the true final yet.

You know they could have just called this FF 4.1. I don't get the need or reason to follow in googles footsteps and pump the major version number for minor updates like this.

The changes in Firefox 5.0 seem smaller, yes. If you haven't been following along very closely, they have changed their development and release process to be more like Chrome's. There will be releases more frequently, with new features added gradually over time.

Also , FF5 had small development period , FF6 and 7 might reflect more changes.

If your favorite add-ons are currently incompatable with a new release try this:

save the add-on .xpi to your desktop
rename the .xpi to .zip
open the zip and extract the install.rdf
open the install.rdf with any text editor
find <em:maxVersion>4.0.*</em:maxVersion> could be any version number
edit to <em:maxVersion>5.0.*</em:maxVersion>
save and put back in zip overwriting the original and save zip
rename .zip back to .xpi
open firefox and "install add-on from file" find modified .xpi

If the add-on is still broken wait for proper although it will more than likely work just fine.

EASIER METHOD FOR ADDON COMPATIBILITY FIX

go to about:config
create this boolean value
extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly
turn it false

OR
