Internet doffs cap with aplomb

Last night, the co-founder of Apple and former chief executive Steve Jobs passed away. You may know him better as the guy who pretty much changed the way you use technology. He also co-founded Pixar, meaning you also have him to thank for pretty much every animated film worth seeing in the past 16 years.

His death has had an understandably profound effect on the digital world, yes even to people who still call themselves PCs, and we've assembled some of the finest tributes.

Anyone else here think google's was a bit meh...? I mean seriously surely steve jobs/apple has/had will have a big influence on them.

Not too sound insensitive, but none of these other corporations are under any obligation to do any sort of memorial. Any kind of tribute, no matter how small, is fine.

It's not an obligation, it's just recognizing what is due, you think Android would be here if it weren't for apple/steve jobs? Also, they doodle the hell out of pointless things... why not doodle jobs death? Though If I remember, when google tried to pay a homage to mac having a dock like magnifying doodle, apple requested a take down...

It takes the team that draws the google doodles several days to prepare and finish them, so rather have something on the start page than nothing at all...

I had an idea about the programs, but I’d love to see the algorithms behind that. The results are seriously impressive.

Like, say this idea doesn’t exist yet… you would have told me "hey, I’m going to take all the pictures apple put up on their website in the last 10 years, and going to make a mosaic of an existing picture Steve Jobs", I would never have believed you.

tributes are wasted advertising space... and we all know bing needs all the money they can get right now ;)

it's not THAT impressive if you think about it. All it does it scan the image you want to make (colours and angles) and take a bunch of pictures you tell it to use to make the collages. programs/tech like that have been around for a while... (probably sound like an elitist right now, but it has...)

I do, actually. Maybe not in its current form, maybe not at the time it did first appear, but eventually, there would have been either Android or something very similar to it.
