How do you know if you can have ice cream sandwich?

This is why its stupid to have so many phones with so many different specs..

I know, just look at how the PC industry has flopped!

I asked a Samsung employee recently and they were unable to confirm that the Galaxy S was going to get it but said there is a good chance since the new Nexus is a similar (but apparently slightly lesser) spec of phone.

However an official ICS might not be on the cards

So it was not very helpful, but he was a nice guy and very chatty and informed

1.5 Cupcake

1.6 Doughnut

2.0 Eclair

2.1 Eclair (came out very quickly after 2.0)

2.2 Froyo

2.3 Gingerbread

3.0 Honeycomb

4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich

They are alphabetic, and coordinate with a major release.

I feel so stupid. I never even noticed they were alphabetical. Seriously thought they were just picking desserts.

The original Galaxy S line is similar to the Nexus S, but has also received updates from 2.1 to 2.2, then 2.3 already, and has been replaced and then replaced again already. The chances of the Galaxy S line getting an upgrade are very slim if you ask me. CyanogenMod will probably get it for you guys though.

I agree Cyanogen Mod 7.1 looks absolutely fabulous on the Galaxy S. I am putting my money on the Cyanogen Developers to bring ICS on the Galaxy S.

That's without a doubt, I don't think anyone was skeptical about this. :)

I am skeptical. Just like Honeycomb , which is closed source, ICS will be too closed source, so no Cyanogen Mod.

Honestly, If the Nexus One can run ICS the Thunderbolt will, Will Verizon release ICS for your device? Pretty subjective.. If not. You can root your device and install a ICS ROM from a developer, Check XDA Developers.

That almost makes sense, except for 3.1 and 3.2 But otherwise, great helpful info! This is why it was a bad idea to name it Ice cream sandwich. Does that make 3.1 Jello and 3.2 Klondike Bar?

OK I've been checking EVERYWHERE I can think ... maybe someone here can post a link to confirm/deny the following two devices:

1 - Samsung Galaxy Infuse 4G (Rogers) - currently 2.3.3 / Kern: 2.6.35.47

2 - Acer Iconia A501 (R0gers) - currently 3.2 / Kern: 2.3.36.3+

3.1 and 3.2 were minor fixes, and thus keep "Honeycomb".
