Keyboard no longer suggestion words

My dad's older ZTE Blade was running CyanogenMod 7.0 (Android 2.3.4) and when you typed "expe", it would suggest words such as "expedition".

This no longer works on his new ZTE Skate (stock Android 2.3.4).

Any ideas how to get it back?

Perhaps the keyboard was changed to a different one that doesn't have auto suggest? Try opening a text dialog like an SMS message, tapping on the text box so that the keyboard pops up, then tapping and holding on the text box until a menu pops up. Choose "Input Method" and try changing it to another keyboard.

I highly suggest using the stock Android Keyboard unless you have something else you really like. The GB keyboard has suggestions and works very well.
