I didn't say any posts were removed, just that there are a lot of posts with negative views on and as soon as one from Stardock gets some it warrants another thread reasserting their position. It's like a rank pulling thing an it's if anything makes me not like them a little bit more each time, even if it's not requested by them.

The Start8 posts didn't warrant this kind of response, the comments in the linked article did. I don't like having to sit back and allow people to spout something which is untrue. We should be able to tell it like it is because otherwise people who know no better will start to believe the comments. I also agree we need to add a disclaimer to the posts in future and this topic provides that.

I've known about Neowin since 2004 or something like that and this is news to me, had to idea Stardock owned parts of Neowin.


Never felt there was too much Stardock news. If anything else I'd say there isn't a whole lot considering all the different programs they have. When was the last time there was a news post about WindowBlinds, for exemple.

Sad. The Stardock involvement with Neowin has been explained countless times. It shouldn't be necessary for Neobond to have to explain it again.

Personally I think you exposed yourself to criticism when you jumped in and attacked rfirth's perfectly reasonable comment. You've got to admit it doesn't look great when the owner of a site with such strong links to Stardock jumps in to defend them so quickly.

It also seems strange that Stardock's opinion warrants a news article given the fact that they are a fairly irrelevant company.

The article was only created because they own part of the site. which is the only reason Startdock invested in Neowin, and everyone knows that. No one honestly cares about Stardock's views on anything (at least not enough to warrant an entire article on the main site).

To say Neowin receives no money from stardock is just silly as well. They pay your legal fees and servers costs. So basically they pay for neowin to be online, and without them you wouldn't do as well, As you stated years ago when Neowin sold out.

Stardock is a business, and they only do things that make business, and encourage profit.

Maybe Stardocks ownership doesnt influence neowin at all, maybe some where out there someone really does care about what stardock thinks. i have seen far less uninteresting articles posted on the site, so maybe?

But what i was really replying to is the entire BS about the money issue.

To say that Stardocks ownership doesnt affect content and such on the site and forum isnt completely honest, there is a subforum here for windowblinds alone, that only has has a few thousand replies, and the last one was in the beginning of December, and it was frogboy. Usually barely used sub forums are merged in with others.

i do love neowin though. I do feel Neobond overly tries to downplay stardocks role (creating this topic for example), just be honest, and let it go.

Indeed, on the other hand though, it's good to see they are created to get anything out of the way and not sit there in a stubborn manner and wait for the shi*storm to fade.
This ensures that Neowin gives a damn about its reputation in terms of ties and dependencies.

I can't say Neowin is overly praising Stardock. I don't read the software news about SD products too often, but when I do I never had the thought that our affiliation influences the coverage in any way.
And I've been a long standing member (even longer standing visitor, but that goes well before the incident and the transition to a LLC) and I must say I'm very confident about all this.

I found Neowin through Stardock. Shortly afterwards I stopped following "TweakTown" due to pathetic journalism and a few other complaints. I haven't looked back and visit Neowin 5-10 times a day (depending on boredom).

I think that this thread is a good thing. You are simply offering to clear the air. Transparency is a good thing especially when involving journalistic integrity.

The only thing I would add is it seems a little harsh to suggest that MS did something "wrong" here (not @Neobond, just in general). It sounds like a **** up that was magnified by a bigger **** up by your providers. Losing a month's worth of content seriously hurts though :\

In all, I enjoy this forum. I find one or two of your news posters to be bottom feeding retards who need to be slapped upside the head; for the most part however, this site is great and I'll continue to link it to my friends and colleagues when appropriate

Kudos to Stardock for helping you guys get out and on your own. Keep up the good work

I can recall vaguely, a post from the early days when the Stardock involvement was announced.
Something like "Yay! we're a real company now!"
I signed up much later, but since I found you guys, Windows has been a pleasure.
I've learned a lot and I respect everyone in the community, even if my posts don't reflect that.

To be fair, I've seen plenty of "Company X has Y opinion on Company Z and it's <insert recent action here>" posts before - usually Samsung vs. Apple, Microsoft Vs. Google, etc. Granted, normally the big wigs fighting it out, but I've also seen "smaller" companies have their opinion posted on the front page before - as I have on another unbiased news sources on other websites. Quite frankly, I'm shocked people have gone this far. My only solace is the hope that people are only doing this because they love Neowin and don't want to see it get "degraded" by possible outside influences like Stardock and it's oodles of noodles - if that isn't the case and they're just causing a ruckus for the sake of causing a ruckus, then that's extremely bad and at the very least should read the rules and play within them.

Either way, I'm glad to see Neobond come in and clear up any confusion - it's always nice to see proactive measures taken to clear up these sorts of issues. Keep up the good work guys
