AT&T HTC One X bootloader denied official unlock solution due to 'r

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, MoDaCo noticed that the bootloader on the AT&T version of the HTC One Xwas locked and that HTC's online tool for unlocking it didn't work. We reached out to HTC on the matter, it it looks as though the smartphone will not be participating in HTC's bootloader unlocking program:

HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. Since announcing our commitment to unlockable bootloaders, HTC has worked to enable our customers to unlock the bootloader on more than 45 devices over the past six months. In some cases, however,
restrictions prevent certain devices from participating in our bootloader unlocking program
. Rest assured, HTC is committed to assisting developers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices and we'll continue to unlock additional devices in the future."

Emphasis ours above. It seems pretty clear that AT&T is behind the "restrictions" here. It's unfortunate that AT&T is blocking an unlock for the device that many consider the best Android smartphone on the market today. We'd like to say that HTC will be able to push back and provide a bootloader solution, but we're guessing that despite the company's recent resurgence, it doesn't have much power in this relationship.

Of course, the fine people in the custom Android ROM community found ways to unlock bootloaders and provide custom ROMs before HTC began providing its (somewhat convoluted) online tool, and we're sure that they will in the future.

really at&t pretty freaking low ... time to start looking at another company i guess :/ if the bootloader can't be unlocked then i have no need for the one X

yep just how long will it take :/ sometimes the old exploits work but most of the time its a real PITA

pain in the ass?

waiting a few weeks(most of the time less) is no pain in the ass especially when you don't have to do anything but wait.

I think it's somewhat the same issue with the 4.5.621 Gingerbread update for Android. Locked bootloader and the only way to root is flashing a .604 Milestone X rom then running zergrush exploit. Hoping there will be an easier method that allows me to root stock 4.5.621 update soon.

Well I'm sure there will be something eventually, they always find a way.

I don't think bootloaders are easily crackable (unless the manufacturer did something really stupid)? It sounds like most of you are talking about root exploits which are completely different.

Yes they are. To load it a ROM on most device, you need a unlocked bootloader.

    • @goretsky I will keep those in mind for the calls we get and update our technicians with the list, im sure the list will grow and I hope there is a larger public statement on this.  Here is the statement from Huntress https://www.huntress.com/blog/klue-breach-investigation
    • But we are talking about Elon Musk, no AT&T... I know big companies are evil, but Elon and his companies are in another level which is much more dangerous.
    • New PowerToys update fixes memory leaks and other issues by Taras Buria Another bug-fixing update is available for PowerToys version 0.100. After releasing version 0.100.1 with a bunch of bug fixes and patches, Microsoft pushed version 0.100.2 to address two important issues with one of Command Palette Dock's features. With PowerToys 0.100.2, Microsoft fixed the performance meter displaying incorrect values and memory leaks, which are particularly unwanted things in the current situation with overpriced PC hardware. Here is the changelog: Reverted a Performance Monitor dock refresh change that forced item refreshes on every metric update Fixed a memory leak in the Performance Monitor dock extension by reusing stable network upload/download band items instead of creating new list items on each refresh For those unfamiliar, Command Palette Dock is a relatively new addition to PowerToys. It is a taskbar-like tool that you can keep on top of the screen to pin various useful widgets, commands, and more. It can display time, weather, your PC's performance metrics, and more. Microsoft introduced the Command Palette Dock in March 2026 in PowerToys 0.98. Microsoft has dedicated documentation for Command Palette Dock, and you can check it out on the official Microsoft Learn website. You can update PowerToys to the latest version by going to Settings > General and clicking "Check for updates." Alternatively, you can download the installer from GitHub using this link. In other news, Microsoft is working on a new window-management utility for PowerToys. Called Alt Window Cycle, it will let you use the Alt + ` shortcut to switch between different windows in a single app. You can learn more about the tool here.
