Meanwhile, you "fatties" are stimulating the fast food and restaurant industry into larger portions that affects otherwise healthy people.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I'm 100% slender, average, whatever ... perfectly normal weight for my height, with a jawline etc ... lol ... but I can tell you now, I disagree with this statement. As someone who is a 'healthy' person, I make my own choices over food. If I know something's bad for me, I regulate that on a personal level. It's not the job of the fast food or soft drink companies to regulate your individual choices over how much you consume. If you wish to eat a smaller portion, eat less of the food you have. If you wish to eat more, buy another load. It's your own choice.

And regarding the obesity in children from fast food. Well, I was never allowed McDonalds as a child unless it was a treat day or something which wasn't that often. My parents fed me healthy foods and I had a good childhood weight. Again, it's the responsibility of the parents to maintain that healthy lifestyle for their children.

Oh dear at the people with the age old "....my taxes are paying for xxxxx....", they aren't YOUR taxes, they are the government taxes and they spend it however they please.

It's not really the governments money. It's my money, your money, his/her money. The government didn't make it. They didn't work for it. It comes out of my wages, your wages, his/her wages.

It also makes me laugh the backlash I am getting, according to my BMI Im borderline normal weight/slightly overweight, I am a bit podgy but I'm not morbidly obese by any stretch of the imagination so keep your comments to yourself about how its my fault portions are getting bigger.

As for this, yeah, I'm not sure what planet that other person is posting from.

Personally I don't mind getting more food than I can eat at a single sitting. Get a take-out box and that's a meal for tomorrow as well.

Why? It's your body, do whatever you want with it, same with my body, I'll do as I see fit to do with it, it's no one else's problem or responsibility so stay the F away

But it is someone else's problem. Insurance and medical costs go up for everyone. Doctors are too busy dealing with peoples lifestyle disorders instead of helping people who have no control over their medical conditions. Fat people are taking up too much space, using too much food, using too much fuel.. all of this drives up prices too, you know. I think fat people need to carry their own weight by paying premiums for their corpulence. The only other alternative would be to melt them down into biofuels.

Eating stale food regularly isn't good for you (unwanted advice of the day :p )

I have to say, there a few discomforting factoids that you've described that I was unaware of.

1. Fat people are taking so much space that the density of Earth will soon cause a black hole.

2. There is an epidemic where healthy citizens are being turned away by their doctors in favor of the obese.

Man, I'm glad you opened my eyes.

On a serious note, only half of what you said is even valid, the other is just fluff.

gotta love the self-righteousness of people - all too quick to tell others how to live their lives...

i must say, i find it particularly repugnant to use individual personal consumption as a discriminating measure - does this imply that the parties in question do not pay their taxes, etc to support their lifestyle that is now under question? For that would be incorrect at best.

There are plenty of people laying dead on mortuary slabs that are paying the price for your "constitutional right" to bear arms as well, it's strange though because I never see people like you blather on about the evil of guns. You might as well just say "I support freedom, but only if it's for things that suit my personal tastes".

I don't want the government to legislate away personal responsibility.

I am a fatty and if fatties want to eat/drink let them, they will die early, problem solved.

But the problem is they help with the massive strain on health services when you hit problems. We need this sort of legislation of fat taxes to help pay for healthcare.

You mean like the way the government in the UK already taxes snack foods but not necessities?

If you're so upset about the fatties costing society money, why don't you just go after that issue in itself? The approach of banning sodas for everyone limits those who are not unhealthy from consuming a treat.

Also, why is it that you're more important that someone else? I prefer to stay in shape myself, but I do not see myself as a superior human that can belittle someone based on their health. There are a lot of overweight people who do great things for society and the demand that comes with their lifestyle allows for many jobs to exist in it's support.

Sell the Coke sans sugar and hand out bags of sugar separately.

Problem solved :p

It's Kool-Aid all over LOL

Glassed Silver:mac

or use stevia...0 calories and better then sugar!

For people who say this is big government. Lets do small government properly. Lets stop corn subsidies so the price of high fructose corn syrup goes up. Which in turn means that soda prices go up. Which in turn means consumption goes down. The market in action.

Humans cant help themselves , smoke knowing its bad , drink too much knowing its bad , eat too much knowing its bad. destroying the planet and ecosystem we live on. hence we have laws and rules. But lets face we all want big cars , big food and drinks. someone else needs to stop us. and they take our moneing and growning for a bit then later we realise it was good for us.

I didn't say anything about outlawing guns or fat people. I just said they need to pay for the burden they're putting on the country. All the health problems they have are costing a fortune in health care costs. Why should I have to pay into that? Same goes for smokers, irresponsible corporations (bailouts), consumer debt (bailouts/stimulus), etc. As for guns, someone else owning a gun isn't going to make me have to pay more for anything. If they start acting irresponsibly with the gun, however, then we have a problem.

Or are you saying we should send all the fat people to war to defend the constitution? That's not what I had in mind.

Who said I eat the whole thing? Perhaps you and I have something that most American people lack...willpower.

But why should I have to pay for mass portions when I'm only going to eat half of it?

Then take the rest home if you're only going to eat half of it, not hard. From personal experience most restaurants are adding smaller portion/diet menus anyway.

If someone lacks the willpower to not stuff their face, it's their problem.

the debate about i don't want my tax to pay for the burden of people health problems which is true. so do I

but you could say I don't want people to drive as air pollution effects me quite a bit. but I own a car? You say it as you don't need to health costs. if you did its in your right for heath care.

What I will say will seem polemic for some, take it for what it is, an opinion:

Many yell "freedom" when they read news like this one. But in reality we dont know what to do with our freedom, we think freedom is some kind of liberty to destroy, waste and consume. That's not freedom, thats a paradigm, thats why we need governments, we need a power that tell us what to do. Of course, abuse of power is common, but sometimes what we call as abuse of power in reality is "Im stubborn and dont want to see I need control".

I support laws like these. I would support laws that ban or at least regulate junk food. Too bad that something like that will never happen since the world economy is too dependent on corps.

    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.
