This test drive turned out to be a right pane for this high-rise showroom - when the would be buyer smashed through the glass wall leaving the motor dangling 50ft above the ground.

Driver Lin Hu - from Liuzhou city in southern China - had been trying to stop the car but hit the throttle instead of the break.

"There was a bang like a shot from a cannon and the window fell out and the car's nose shot out," said one witness.

"The car was left balancing. Glass was falling everywhere. It is a miracle the driver got out alive." he continued.

Police say the terrified motorist managed to stop just in time and he and a salesman scrambled through the car's rear doors back to safety and the fourth floor showroom.

The car was left dangling precariously over the edge of the fourth floor of the car salesroom.

A car salesman said: "The customer sat in the car and wanted to have a go in the driver's seat. A colleague of mine was sitting with him in the car showing him its different functions.

"Then suddenly the customer put his foot on the accelerator and the car shot across the showroom and smashed through the wall. I thought they were a goner. But luckily the car stopped just in the nick of time and the customer and salesman were able to scramble out of the car uninjured but very shocked.

"They were very lucky. We thought the car would lose its balance any moment and would take a nose dive to the ground.

Staff managed to secure the car from the back and rescue workers were able to salvage the car.

Police are now investigating why the drover was allowed to turn on the car engine indoors and the driver will have to foot the bill for the damaged car and wall as well as face a fine.
