Hahahahaha. With 32 MB of RAM how could it become obsolete? :p How's Crysis on it?

I have a i7 920 I built when they first came out late in 2008. So that makes this PC a little under 4 years old. Since them i've upgraded the ram from 6gb to 12gb and added a 80GB Boot drive. It still handles EVERYTHING I would want to do. I don't plan on upgrading this machine for another 4 years.

i got the same CPU. Not much to upgrade anymore.either. I did the ram upgrade to 12gb as you did. I upgraded my video card. hard drives work just fine, cant really think of anything else to upgrade.

back in 2008 i was going to get a blu ray burner drive, but i guess blu ray burning died out because you dont hear too much about it as you used to dvd burners and such.
i miss the days where there was something new to upgrade to every few months, but to be honest, crap back then broke often so you had no choice really. Went through so many cd rom drives and so on. Now stuff seems to last forever.

ARe you sure you'll be upgrading to a new PC in 4 years? Apparently by then we're all going to be mobile using tablets running Metro, </s>

I had an eMachines laptop when I was at uni (bought it in 2004). Worst piece of junk I've ever owned. It was sent back for repair more times than I care to remember and the last time it was sent back they added all sorts of upgrades to it (probably thinking i deserve something considering it spent more time away from me). I got additional RAM, a larger HDD and better DVD drive and a few other things that I cannot remember.

Well then Intel didn't make any serious mistakes in my opinion. Celerons were slower, but they were cheaper. Makes sense to me.

And here's a machine which is more powerful...

It doesn't runs Windows and all x86 apps. It might be more powerful (if we can even compare Intel/ARM) but it doesn't do the same thing :/

Actually the raspberry pi CPU is equilivent to a 300Mhz x86 in terms of 'power' one of the developers said :p

Probably still works so its not technically obsolete

Just because something still works, doesn't mean it's not obsolete.

I owned one of those also. Wasn't that a service that you pay monthly and after a year you could get an upgrade. I think it included internet service too. PeoplePC maybe?

read the whole sticker ffs

it had a two year upgrade at heavily discounted prices. They were basically running the same deals that cell phone companies run so you would never have to run with wildly outdated tech for long.

Always wondered why people never peeled the advert stickers off. Would've been the first thing i did.
emachines was really bad with the stickers, as with the early HP's. actually maybe everyone did that back then :p
