Just noticed Facebook appear to have made a small update to their site! Now when you type in a text emoticon when commenting on a news feed story, it's replaced with it's graphical equivalent (similar to what happens in facebook chat):
...what's interesting though, is that currently this only appears to apply to comments - not to actual status updates themselves!
