Has Sony really released ICS for their Xperia's?

Recommended Posts

Yes, it has been released for a while now (two weeks?), even in my end of the world, so .nl must definitely have it. It's not being pushed as an OTA. Search for one using PC Companion. Also, my collegues testify that a clean install is preferable, otherwise it's acting strangely. But hey - that's Android for you.

@Kiddingguy, might want to take a look at the topics on Tweakers.net.

Rollout of an update always takes a while. You can expect most kits to have received an update around two months after the start of the rollout. This is the case for several reasons (carrier and government approvals, local app additions, ...) and there's not much you can do about it.

However, if you can find a .ftf file (check XDA-developers) for the update you can just flash it without risk, without unlocking anything and without losing any data using Flashtool (a reverse-engineered Sony Update Service).

That's one more reason to take a stab at clean install ( http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1937792 ), if you have time. If you don't, well... apart from battery life improvements there's not really much to see there. Glove mode is overrated (personal observation, take care!).

Check this link: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/53822, see if your SI number is on the list. If the Xperia Sola's rollout of ICS is anything like my Xperia Mini's ICS rollout, Sony will do it in batches, so your phone might not be in the first batch. For my Xperia Mini it took about two months from the first batch to the last batch to get ICS, so you might have to wait a bit...

Anyway if your SI is there then connect your phone to the Sony PC Companion software to check for updates, the on-device "Update center" is (in my observation) usually delayed or does not work. I had been updating my Xperia Mini (including from Gingerbread to ICS) using PC Companion.

Delta updates (over-the-air-updates) are created a while later since they require way more testing and are less reliable.

The best way to do and check for updates is by using Sony Update Service:

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/

Is there a difference between PC Companion, http://www.sonymobile.com/update or the Sony Update Service?

And, just a question, why can Apple do a rollout of iOS for all devices at the exact same time & date, and Sony/Android can't?

Sony Update Service = only updates, way more reliable.

Well, Apple is in very tight control. Carriers expect different customized versions from Sony, and every regional edition features different pre-installed apps. It's a bit of a downside but it's something that all manufacturers have to face. Only Apple devices get updated at the same time.

    • Limited Prime Day deal sees Amazon Echo Show 11 is at its lowest price yet by Ivan Jenic The Amazon Echo Show 11 is currently $149.99 on Amazon during Prime Day, down from $219.99. That's 32% off and $70 saved on Amazon's newest mid-size smart display (purchase link below). As its name suggests, the Echo Show 11 features a 11” Full-HD touchscreen, which is a decent upgrade over the Echo Show 8. It offers 60% more viewing area, which makes a genuine difference for recipes, calendars, video calls, or any other scenario where the smaller display can feel a bit cramped. The Show 11 is built around Alexa+, Amazon's more capable AI assistant that can handle natural conversation. You can make reservations, order groceries, and find content based on your preferences, instead of always having to give it precise commands. There’s also the Omnisense technology, which adds ambient awareness, allowing the device to trigger routines based on temperature, presence detection, or visual cues. Smart home control is built in without needing a separate hub, and the home screen doubles as a photo slideshow when not in use. Taking all of this into account, the Show 11 is a perfect smart addition to your kitchen counter or living room. At $149.99, this is a strong Prime Day buy for anyone already in the Amazon ecosystem or looking to build one out. • Dang that sucks. I just started using this feature instead of Pushbullet.
    • I use my devices until the very end. I used my old desktop computer for 16 years, my OnePlus 5T phone for 8 years and my LG Gram laptop for 7 years. Even though they are still working, there are no more security updates for most of them (Windows 7 ESU, Android 12 ROM and the LG Gram because I wanted an ARM based laptop).
