G4 Marks the End of AOTS and X-Play with Two-Month Farewells

G4's two longest-running and defining series, Attack of the Show! and X-Play, will be ending their run at the end of 2012. Both shows will include original episodes through the end of the year, and will look back at theirmost memorable moments as we lead up to their final episodes. A rotating lineup of guest co-hosts including John Barrowman, Michael Ian Black, Josh Myers, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Horatio Sanz will join AOTS hosts Candace Bailey and Sara Underwood, and X-Play hosts Morgan Webb and Blair Herter as part of the farewell shows.

With well over a thousand episodes each, Attack of the Show! and X-Play have defined gamer culture for a generation, serving as the launch pad for prominent personalities including Kevin Pereira, Olivia Munn, Chris Hardwick and Adam Sessler. Attack of the Show! debuted March 28, 2005 and from the start was the ultimate guide to everything cool and new in the world of technology, web culture, gaming and pop culture. X-Play made its debut almost two years earlier, on April 28, 2003 (on G4?s previous incarnation: TechTV), and immediately became the go-to destination for young men seeking the latest video game news, honest reviews, hands-on demos and exclusive video game trailers and footage. The year-end celebration will take you back through highlights of these landmark shows' history, including its exclusive live-from-the-floor coverage of San Diego Comic-Con and E3.

Both long-running shows helped define, as well as expand, the pop culture and gaming TV experience for a generation. We hope you've had as much fun watching them as we have had making them, and sincerely hope you join us in bidding a fond farewell to Attack of the Show and X-Play's as we look back over the next two months and head towards each series' finale.

http://www.twit.tv FTW

http://live.twit.tv

They got rid of all the good people for people who looked better, and then the shows got stupid.

Is twit.tv going to fill the void in my life without AOTS? They need to hire some chicks. :D

LOL What the hell else is on the network aside from Attack of the Show, and X-Play?

Aside from all the Cops, and trash TV reruns.

Apparently they're "rebranding" the network to be more like the magazine GQ.

Wow how absolutely sad. You have to admit though the show has gotten so horrid since Kevin left. The network has nothing anymore.

Not for nothing but Im actually shocked that those 2 shows lasted as long as they did. They were actually terrible. I miss the old screen saver days. But on the bright side at least you can go to revision 3 and enjoy some real shows. TwitTV would be a good replacement as well.

Farewell, Attack of the Show and X-Play. TVGuide.com is reporting that the two long-running G4 series are coming to an end, as the cable undergoes a rebranding that will turn away from its geek-friendly past.

The final episodes of both will air in December, and leading up to the finale will be rotating guest co-hosts joining current AOTS hosts Candace Bailey and Sara Underwood and X-Play hosts Morgan Webb and Blair Herter, including John Barrowman, Michael Ian Black, Josh Myers, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Horatio Sanz.

TVGuide.com says both shows will have a series of farewell episodes that will include former guests and hosts returning, along with re-airing favorite segments from the past, including AOTS?s coverage of San Diego Comic-Con and X-Play?s E3 coverage.

"Attack of the Show and X-Play have been important for G4, and we want to acknowledge the creative people who have helped inspire and showcase the phenomenon of gamer culture," G4 Media general manager Adam Stotsky tells TV Guide. "With more than 3,000 episodes aired between them, we have more than enough great material to honor these innovators and their amazing contributions as we bring both shows to a close."

TVGuide.com says there is talk that G4 may be looking to partner with Esquire or another men?s magazine like GQ as it moves forward into ?more upscale, sophisticated guy TV space.? The network may be renamed G4Men, among other possibilities.

G4TV was bad from the start. You have to go all the way back to TechTV or even ZDTV to say there was a time everything was tech.

Yes, we all know how great that show was. Being nostalgic about it still doesn't serve any purpose. Attack of the Show was at least entertaining and Kevin brought a lot to the show. Without him, it's hasn't been the same and it wasn't ever going to be. What I meant is without Adam Sessler or Kevin Pereira, the two biggest shows on G4 are now no more. That is indeed sad.
