Slightly surprised that no one made a topic on Rocksmith, so here goes nothing. It's already been out in America for a year, and it finally got released everywhere else over the last month, so anyone here's that playing/played it, what do you think of it? :)

In my experience, it's been a fantastic tool, and I've learnt more of the guitar in the two weeks I've played so far (I got the PC version) than in the past three years of fumbling about with my dad's Epiphone Les Paul every-now-and-then. I've already mastered "Next Girl" (I'll be uploading a video to YouTube later on), and I've also mastered the individual sections of a few other songs, like "Between the Lines", "Panic Switch", and "Spoonman", but haven't reached the 100k milestone with them yet; I might have them mastered before the weekend's up. I've touched a bit of the bass as well (got my own Mexican-made 5-string Fender Jazz Bass), but for now, the guitar is my priority (especially as I already know a fair bit of the bass).

Must admit I've been interested, guitar has always been my favourite instrument but I have the musical talent of a dead koala so have steered away from it. Is it something you can pick and up and start learning with almost straight away?

It definitely is. It guides you through pretty much every single aspect of learning the guitar; the only caveat is it does it in baby steps, regardless of your pre-existing skill, so if you were already very experienced, and simply wanted to use it to rehearse or learn new songs, it may get frustrating at the start. On the bright side, after the tutorials, it doesn't take too long to get the chance to master a song; master each section in the Riff Repeater, then you can play (and master) the song in full. You can dive straight into the song if you don't want to, but it starts you at the lowest difficulty, and you won't get to the highest one in your first play, even if you hit every single note that comes, so the Riff Repeater is a good timesaver.
