Comcast New logo Design Line

Recommended Posts

Established in 1963, Comcast is a global media and technology company and it operates two main businesses. The first, and what most people associate the company with, Comcast Cable ? although it?s not called Comcast Cable, but Xfinity ? which is the the largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider for residential and business use in the U.S. with a combined 50.8 million customers. Under the Comcast name there is also venture capital firm Comcast Ventures and sports and entertainment company Comcast-Spectacor. The other primary business is NBCUniversal, only one of the world?s leading media and entertainment companies that manages the namesake television network and movie production company, as well as specialty channels like USA Network, Syfy, E!, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, and more. In other words, Comcast is huge and influential. Yesterday, without any fanfare or release, Comcast flipped the switch on a fancy new website that features a new corporate logo.

In an extremely surprising move, Comcast has adopted the NBC peacock as its own logo. This is mind-blowing for a number of reasons. (1) When NBCUniversal redesigned, the decision was made that this corporate mark should have neither the peacock nor Universal?s globe; a decision I commended and still do; and now you have a corporate name that doesn?t even include the word NBC and there, like a crown, it sits on top of Comcast. It?s impossible to look at the peacock and NOT think NBC, forcing you to read the logo as NBCComcast. (2) Moving the peacock into corporate territory where it now becomes an ambassador for a technician making you wait at home for a window of 4 hours to repair your cable or internet connection is absolutely counterproductive: The NBC peacock logo should stand for television entertainment alone and focus on elbowing its way back into its equally iconic networks logos and their ongoing rivalries. Diluting that brand ? which stands for Today, the Olympics coverage, The Voice (hey, I don?t make the ratings), Parks and Recreation and all the way back to Seinfeld and Friends ? in favor of corporate appearances feels like a mistake. And (3) just look at the Comcast logo and name line-up below: This is one of the most confusing brand architectures where names and logos are crudely interchangeable ? it makes Mr. Potato Head look organized.

When I saw the logo, NBC was the first thing I thought too.

It's inevitable unless of course you're just a plank of wood with two nails as eyes...

They probably hired the same people that MS used to pay for their branding...

Well, at least Microsoft's new branding is consistent.

Shi**y and giving up a traditional logo (lol @ that), but still, at least consistent.

That crap above is just a mess.

  • 8 months later...

Not a good move in my opinion, their marketing is very fragmented now. As is the difference between Xfinity and Comcast is pretty confusing.

That is true it's very fragmented but Xfinity was done to think they were 2 companies because the bad PR Comcast has.

Comcast...now with extra ****tyness.

This. I had 600 ping on a good day when I lived in Nashville and I had them as an ISP. Tech came out and managed to knock out the whole apartment complex's cable/internet (around 700 some units) to fix it. FAIL.

When I went to drop papers off at the leasing office the next morning it was jam packed full of people complaning.

The ping problem still was never fixed. Neighbors were still complaining as well even as I was moving out of the place 2 months later!

*Note I even changed modems, routers, cables, reinstalled OSes and everything.

**Note also this was back in 2005

    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
    • Hello, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of a multicast-DNS service, which allows devices running Apple's software and/or hardware to find each other on your local network.  I believe the Windows version was last updated around 2010. If you do not need it, you can stop and disable the Bonjour service in the Services Control Manager (filename: SERVICES.MSC).  Once you have done that, the operating system will no longer attempt to load the service.
