Hello there people, I'm recently going trough some monetary issues...

What i need is a free ftp server with at least 1-5Gb space, ability to upload files larger than 800 megs and bandwidth limit superior of 10 gb...

Yes I know cloud services will do nicely, still i really need an ftp server.

I know it's a lot to ask but if anyone knows any server like this please tell me.

Thanks in advance.

Curious why you think you need ftp? But here is a site that provides ftp access to any of the cloud services - its a one time $20 fee after you get your free account. http://storagemadeeasy.com/CloudFTP/

^ for ftp maybe, but those requirements are met by like every single FREE cloud provider are they not?

I am really curious to the reason for the required ftp - its kind of dying protocol with cloud space becoming common everywhere. Its a difficult protocol with the control and data channels on different ports, active vs passive and all the nats and multiple nats on both server and client sides. You can do some stuff with SSL to remove the security issues of clear text username passwords. But this again can get complicated because ftp helpers can not see the info to allow the connections through nats while inside a ssl tunnel, etc. SFTP (ssh) is a better solution to ftp stuff in general - but its for some crazy reason never really hit mainstream use.

Which can prob be explained with easy secure SSL/TLS access using any web browser to space in the cloud.

So why is ftp actually required - maybe its not? And we can give the user a better solution?

7 GB Space, no Bandwidth Limit,

although it is more a website for webspace, you can still use it for FTP (also you can set up multiple accounts (max. 20) for different folders).

I know it's German, just use a translator if needed (should be self-explanatory though).

Free FTP

imho there's only one way to get a real deal and it involves buying a hosting solution. (why would anyone give out a service which costs money (hardware + internet access costs) for free?)

MEGA is under fire already by Robert King CEO of StopFileLockers, plus i read something about his advert hijacking scheme (http://extratorrent.com/article/2697/new+megaupload+promised+ad+service+hijacking+your+browser.html)

Also alot of servers normally limit the upload size of a file, 800mb sounds rather large imo and would be hard to get something like that for "free".

Thanks for all the help/advise for the moment I will use http://powrhost.com/ as i'm unemployed and i have a household to sustain i cant afford to spend a penny in hosting. Let's see if in a near future I can get a job and pay the bills properly and then I can buy ftp space.

Once again thanks to you all!

Is that the correct url?

"http://powrhost.com/" has been blocked by the <snipped> Web Security URL Filter Database. The URL is listed under categories (Spam URLs), which are not allowed by your administrator at this time. The following reputation level was assigned to it: Suspicious.

So you want to use a site that webfiltering blocks?

That site - even without anything telling me - looks cheesy and suspicious as hell...

Still not one mention of why he thinks he needs "ftp" To be honest I doubt it is - there are always different ways to skin the cat, I would like to know why ftp is the only method of skinning this particular cat ;)

Host companies have FTP server along with web server such as apache.. for example, you want to use FTP so you could upload site data to be seen by public... so your administrator can setup an ftp account for you. even the setup files for anyone to download from the web... ie: ftp://domain.com/files/firefox.exe or http://domain.com/files/firefox.exe ... something like that.

Please note the links that I mentioned above, those are not real... Neowin changed from text to hyperlink by itself.

user with less than 10 posts, asks for ridiculous requirements for free, then miraculously finds a host that suits his needs perfectly!

Sounds like a bad attempt at advertising to me

inb4 powrhost is OP's crappy site

I agree with you hosting companies normally provide ftp or sftp or webdav or web gui as way of managing files on your host site. But the OP mad no mention of just free hosting site.

He only mentions being able to ftp 800MB file - not that this 800MB file would then be on some website mysite.tld etc.

Details of what exactly he believes he needs ftp for would go along way into helping us suggest solutions to what he is wanting to do. Most free webhosts are more than likely going to be a lot lower than 5GB of space?

If the files will ultimately be available via http, why does he need ftp as method up uploading them - why does the current cloud solutions not work?

Need details of the cat if you want actual help in finding the best skinning method!

edit: Guth makes a good point, it could be just a spamming method for this crap site he says he is going with.

Not saying OP is this guy, but it's pretty interesting what one WhoIs and a quick Google search on that name returned (second result even, after his own website (?) that just blanks):

http://thenextweb.co...khat-douchebag/

Wouldn't touch Powrhost with any size pole as it looks.

haha I just left whois and was going to google when I saw your post :)

Just in case, sorry OP if you are not advertising via asking a question first then answering it yourself. This does look fishy though.

You do make a point...

Unlike other download managers and accelerators, Internet Download Manager segments downloaded files dynamically during download process, and it reuses available connections without additional connect and login stages to achieve the best possible acceleration performance. Comprehensive error recovery and resume capability will restart broken or interrupted downloads due to lost connections, network problems, computer shutdowns, or unexpected power outages. All popular browsers are supported IDM integrates seamlessly into Google Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer, Maxthon and all other popular browsers to automatically handle your downloads. You can also drag and drop files, or use Internet Download Manager from command line. The program supports proxy servers, ftp and http protocols, firewalls, redirects, cookies, authorization, MP3 audio and video content processing. IDM includes web site spider and grabber IDM downloads all required files that are specified with filters from web sites, for example all pictures from a web site, or subsets of web sites, or complete web sites for offline browsing. It's possible to schedule multiple grabber projects to run them once at a specified time, stop them at a specified time, or run periodically to synchronize changes. Easy downloading with one click When you click on a download link in a browser, IDM will take over the download and accelerate it. You don't need to do anything special, just browse the Internet as you usually do. IDM will catch your downloads and accelerate them. IDM supports HTTP, FTP, HTTPS and MMS protocols. Changes in Internet Download Manager 6.43 Build 2: Resolved the problem that caused a "403 Forbidden" error when downloading some files Fixed a problem causing IDM download panel not to appear on some websites Fixed a bug that caused a crash when converting some TS files to MP4 Download: Internet Download Manager 6.43 Build 2 | 11.9 MB (Shareware) Links: Internet Download Manager Website | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware

There will come a day when the US and China will collide like titans ( over Taiwan or anything else ). • Microsoft Edge gets tons of security features, including AI model that can see your screen by Usama Jawad Microsoft Edge may not be the most popular browser out there, but it does receive quite frequent updates that sometimes bring surprising new features and axe others that are not as popular. Now, Microsoft has detailed some of the new security enhancements that it has introduced in Edge for Business, typically used by commercial customers. Microsoft has emphasized that security features are baked into Edge for Business and offer native integration with security and governance tools like Defender and Purview. Browser sessions are governed by default on managed devices but can also be governed through dedicated work profiles on unmanaged devices. An important aspect in this area is controlling the use of shadow AI. We have talked about this before, but it essentially restricts employees from using unsanctioned AI apps through data loss prevention (DLP) policies, with Edge redirecting them to trusted AI services like Microsoft 365 Copilot. This feature, available as a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) license, ensures that confidential data never exits AI boundaries set by your organization in Purview. Additionally, Microsoft also has strong DLP policies for contractors. Contractors leveraging a Entra ID-joined work profile provisioned by their contracting company on a device managed by their actual employer can be restricted from downloading files locally. In such scenarios, the file is saved on the contracting firm's OneDrive rather than being downloaded locally. Another useful Edge security feature disallows copying and pasting from unmanaged locations and apps. Similarly, DLP policies can be configured at a granular level to restrict screenshots or downloading of files from certain locations. In the same vein, IT admins can block the installation of extensions, hosted apps, themes and scripts, and control if users can install extensions from external locations. They can also enable the installation of specific extensions and allow users to request access to certain extensions, so that they can be managed on a case-by-case basis. Finally, Edge for Business now has an on-device AI model that uses computer vision to see what's on your screen and block potentially malicious content immediately. This does not rely on site reputation, as it simply monitors what is being displayed on your screen, which means that it is effective against malicious content that takes over your screen and employs scareware tactics. Since this is an on-device AI model, it does use your system's resources, so it's enabled by default only on devices with at least 2GB of RAM and four CPU cores. You can find more details in the Microsoft Mechanics video here.
