Gun control is successfully enforced in plenty of countries all over the world. Where tragedies like.... see huge list here (and that's just the States) happen far far less. #justsayin

Gun control != no guns to civil people...

I live in Germany and it's quite easy to get a gun here legally if you a) are not totally nuts and b) care about storing your weapon in a responsible way.

um, last I checked the gun control legislation Obama is pushing for doesn't take away the guns in those pics.

Not yet. He will get around to full gun control. I agree that all Assault Weapons should be banned, but there are thousands out there already.

You're right. That does seem to be the overly simplistic argument you see put forward by gun nuts,

You may call it overly simplistic but when the 10-year Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act was passed in '94 the picture in the OP accurately describes what happened (with assault weapons anyway). Criminals do not care what the law says. They will always find what they want if they have enough cash. Furthermore, some of the most horrific shootings involving assault weapons occurred while the ban was in effect.

This isn't about guns. It was never about guns. Liberal politicians are trying to desensitize the masses to an erosion of rights and liberties. Our president and his cronies are a bunch of radical communist nut-jobs. They seek to form a class of elites to control all of the resources and all of the people. Obama's current economic policy should be proof enough for that as he has made calculated moves to keep businesses off kilter as to keep unemployment high which increases dependence on the government. The trouble is few people understand what the REAL American Dream is - Obtaining a state of near total self reliance with limited government intervention. These are sad times in America and it will get worse before people wake up and hold their elected officials accountable.

Occasionally in the UK we have a period of time where the police stations allow anyone to walk in and hand over their weapons and walk out without a charge, I've forgotten the name but basically means you are exempt from what would normally happen if you did that and won't be in any trouble for having owned it in the past (Unless I guess if you had used it on someone and they found out)

EDIT - Weapons Amnesty

Report on one of those months

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-180650/Gun-amnesty-nets-40-000-weapons.html

I think the root problem of gun violence is not the gun, but the problems and issues the person at the trigger has.

Give a happy man a gun, he won't use it.

Give a troubled, abused, misunderstood man a gun, maybe he will use it.

(by use I mean ABuse)

Gun control is no solution, but it can help the amount of corpses as outcome of tragic events.

The easier an assault rifle is available, the more deaths there will be in shootings.

Sure, a dedicated criminal will be able to get them regardless, but isn't it funny to see that most of them in more controlled countries don't seem to be so desperate to get the heavy stuff and pick the "lighter" options?

Sure, the assault rifles are already out there, and that adds a problem for the dimension of future availability.

This spices things up a lot of course and I won't pretend to know the best way out for the US, but continuing without realizing there is a MASSIVE problem in the US surely won't help anyone, even those who are responsible gun owners that get all my support for their sport, hobby and means of defense.

It should however be in their interest to resolve this in some way, too. I'm not saying big government and bans are the way, maybe they really aren't, but instead we should look at what makes people trigger guns.

It's worries, troubled lives, traumata, harassment, ...

We should strive for a more social civilization that looks after each other, is less greedy and in less need of bans.

We should strive to teach our children (peacefully) again how important kindness and empathy - even for "enemies" - actually is.

I think the real problem is what triggers the aggressions.

Do guns kill people? Sure do, but they only boost the "effectivity" of the drama bound to happen.

Do people kill people? Some of them, yes.

Does society form murders, unknowingly, unintentionally and in tragic ways? Yes.

What a load of nonsense but thanks for proving my point.

This is why pro-gunners are looked upon in general as not as intelligent. You can't see the forest through the trees. This can apply to anything.

Speed Limits: why have speed limits when speeders will speed anyway?

Tax Laws: why have tax laws when tax evaders will evade taxes anyways?

Pedophile laws: Why have pedophile laws when pedophiles will still stalk children?

Murder laws: why have murder laws when murders don't care about the laws anyways?

The list is endless... in the end, why have any laws at all? /s

But this is what the reasonable people would believe they want to see happen. You know, because even reasonable people shoot!

Edit: can't believe how long that took me! :D

Exactly. Remember, they are nuts, who have guns. Bang bang!

I know exactly what you mean by that image, but I was talking with a neighbor who is a big gun collector and he has no problem with turning in a gun for a fair price.

The way the law is set to go off now ... for example ... Which is why he is so upset with the proposed law :

He bought an AR-15 base model for 1,400$ then had about $3,000 worth of work on it. 4,000$ is what he has it insured for, but they only want to give him 600$ for that gun by the new laws if he were to turn it in. (basically the cost of the metal that is in the weapon)

That is what he is so up in arms about... He was talking about trying to pawn it for 2,500$ before the new laws take effect.

He also said he would be glad to turn it in if they would at least pay the base model rate. or close to it.

He owns about 10 guns total the AR-15 he said he got for Deer hunting. It has a scope on it and custom grip and he says when he goes hunting he caries the 10 round clip. It only fires one shot at a time.

Five of which are from the Civil War.... muskets and officer pistols.

The AR-15, one double barrel shotgun (he says was his grandfathers), One bolt action rifle, and two revolvers (one for him and his wife).

What's your problem calling people gun nuts. Show a little respect..... :pinch:

What makes you think they deserve respect? These people are paranoid, unreasonable, unwilling to compromise, irrational and driven by fear and cowardice. They show little sign that they value human life over their ability to buy guns that they don't need. They're generally far-right delusionals relying on conspiracy theories to justify their poorly thought out arguments.

Calling them gun nuts seems mild when you consider the type of people that they are.

Similar to what happened here in Australia. Sports shooters and collectors got their holes ripped. Neighbours across the back of us were competitive trap shooters and spent a fortune importing an auto shotgun each. Had to hand them in 2 years later and got about $1200 au each if I remember correctly. Can't say if that was everyone's experience. I myself made money out of the deal. :)

    • But building your own.. what? You can't build anything like the Steam Machine yourself. Even trying to get close costs a good deal more. Even just the CPU cooler in their price comparison is as big as the entire Steam Machine. If you want a regular gaming PC, then by all means, build that. If you want a a small console-like PC for the living room that is good for gaming, I'm not sure what else is a better deal. In the GN review, they only mentioned a small form factor Dell, which is like twice the size and hundreds of dollars more expensive.
    • Those are some popular multiplayer games. But hardly "all". Just those that don't work on Linux currently due to specific anti-cheat implementations. I think it's also fair to point out the literally thousands of games that don't work on the PS5. And it's not locked at 1080p. That's the default, which you can change.
    • Ubuntu Livepatch arrives on Arm64 to eliminate system reboots for kernel updates by Paul Hill Canonical has just announced that its Livepatch service now supports computers with Arm64 processors. For those who are not familiar, Livepatch allows users to apply important kernel updates without any service interruption or rebooting. While home users will benefit from this, it’s even more important for critical machines that absolutely should not be going offline at all. The feature is available as part of Ubuntu Core 26 for Arm64 and Ubuntu Core 20 and onwards for AMD64. According to Canonical, this will improve the security of systems that aren’t security-maintained daily or weekly, and it helps organizations work towards Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, you probably know that most packages can be updated without having to restart the system. There is one big exception to this, and that’s the kernel; it typically requires you to reload the system to boot into the new kernel. With Livepatch, Canonical has done something so that you don’t need to restart to begin using the new kernel. Aside from Ubuntu Core 26, users with Arm64 chips running Ubuntu 26.04 LTS can also use Livepatch. If you want to learn more about Livepatch, check out its product page. There, you can also find a button to join Ubuntu Pro (it’s free for several home devices) so that you can enable Livepatch. By linking your computer to Ubuntu Pro, you will also extend the life of your Ubuntu install from five years to ten years. If you are running Ubuntu, let us know in the comments if you have been looking forward to this feature on your ARM-based computer. If you’ve had a compatible AMD64 machine for a while and never used this feature, let us know why in the comments!
