I for one saw the poll results as quite interesting

Just wondering what you found interesting about the poll results? Like I said in the comments to the poll, anyone vaguely familiar with this site could have told you beforehand that a vast majority here hate Apple, and often it seems Apple users, as well. That's blatantly obvious going through the threads and (especially) article comments and even some members' signatures.

While i can clearly see how the topic of the poll would have started a flame ware and definitely upset a lot of people especially with the current atmosphere of the forums. It just makes me wish more people had restraint, if something upsets you or you disagree with it. Just post rationally and do not attack people and go off. The poll could have been handled better, and perhaps the poll could still find a place as a forum post rather than a main page item.

Except it wasn't a 'faux outrage'. Publishing the poll as it was has to have been one of the daftest moves in the history of Neowin.

So by just asking a simple question, it's the daftest moves in the history of Neowin?

I would rather say wake up and get real.

Free speech and the ability to express our views on different things is something that should be allowed everywhere.

'Do you hate Apple' is a very simple and easy question. If you answer Yes, then we know you hate Apple and you might also give a reason why you hate Apple. If you don't hate Apple, then it would also be nice to hear the reasons why you are not hating Apple.

I don't see the fuss with this poll / question.

I think the fact is that Apple atm, is in a bad situation for what they are doing or how they are. And the Apple fans knows ALOT of peoples are bashing Apple for it and don't want to see their loved company gets trashed like this.

This is most likely one of the reasons why you wanted the poll / question to go away.

Again - it wasn't the idea behind the poll I'm opposed to. It was how it was formulated which made it a very daft move.

Ehh?

Again, it's a very simple question. Do you hate Apple?

If i hate Apple, then i can answer to that question and if i don't hate Apple i can also answer why i don't hate them.

Can the question be any better or different when it's about hate?

Neowin should be allowed to ask about things you hate.

EDIT: We all knows that alot of peoples are in fact hating Apple for what they do and what they are. So it's just normal to asks those who hate Apple about why they hate Apple.

Do I really have to explain again why the question was a bad idea? Come on now.

It would have been equally stupid to ask 'do you hate Microsoft' or 'do you hate Windows 8'. All it does is drive further wedges between the various factions the community splintered into, and make guest visitors question the intelligence of the news staff.

No it would not be stupid to asks any of those things. Why would it be stupid to asks those questions at all?

There is always someone hating Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola and so on. So why would it be bad to ask those things if you hate someone?

Have you ever heard about free speech?

Just a question though. If it'd been "Do you hate that stupid company Apple" then fair enough, but it didn't, it merely asked a straight forward question. To many opinions ruining everything around here.

Just as an aside. I would have voted no. I only own one Apple product which frequently annoys me but hate is such a strong word. I disagree with a lot of the way they do business but is it even possible to actually 'Hate' a company?

Have you ever heard of journalistic standards?

Have you ever heard of journalistic standards?

So, how would you ask the question about Apple then if it's about hate?

I was opposed to the article in question, not because I wanted to defend the company or anything else other than the poll question was asked in a biased way.

It really wasn't an article, it was a simple poll, there was no discussion beyond that as stated in the post. Not sure how anyone could take it so personally or think it was biased in any way, since there was no story/commentary at all to go along with it.

Have you ever heard about free speech?

Freedom of speech only applies to the government censoring it's people. It has nothing to do with private media, in the work place, etc.

The name of the game for a lot of people in a any forum, is to try to get under the skin of some one or to try to show off their intelligence (which usually has the exact opposite effect)

Your poll was way to easy to accomplish both those facts.

Unfortunately,

I have had the exact same issues when ever I see that totally stupid "The big wwe thread" pop up on the front page. Simply can not believe that there are that many adults who can actually tolerate that totally insane and unbelievable junk, and sometime just can not resist posting my feelings on that dumb a** s**t!!

Title is a bit off (no offence)

To Apple Fanboy: Most people have different taste. Just get over it....

For me wasn't a big deal. The Fanboy are bit retarded..

I just wish those guys who hate the poll should get off neowin for few days or don't touch the net. I've seen many Fanboy(girl) wars, they are just plain stupid and retarded.

Really? This needed an apology? It's hardly Watergate! Oh boy. <Wanders off smiling at the absurdity of life....>

Gotta agree with this.

Neowin, stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and whiners. Let your talented writers get out there and do their jobs without having to delete polls and apologize.

For Zarquon's sake. Some of you still don't get it.

The poll in its published form was daft because all it did is fuel the fire and incite flame wars. If a member had posted the very same poll on the forum the topic would have been closed and the member warned. Double standards much?

It also made Neowin look rather silly to visitors. Can that be what the news staff is after? Attract visitors with troll-ish headlines for the sake of getting more clicks? I think not. I was under the assumption that the editors have at least some journalistic standards.

And lastly, it's regardless of which company the poll had been about. Apple, Google, MS -. the way it was asked would have been daft all the same.

Free speech and the ability to express our views on different things is something that should be allowed everywhere.

So why are you against people criticising the poll or asking for it to be removed? Surely that would come under "free speech"? Not that it matters, as we've already established isn't covered on private forums anyway.

Just a question though. If it'd been "Do you hate that stupid company Apple" then fair enough, but it didn't, it merely asked a straight forward question.

It's a leading question. I really don't know how to make it any clearer.

It really wasn't an article, it was a simple poll, there was no discussion beyond that as stated in the post. Not sure how anyone could take it so personally or think it was biased in any way, since there was no story/commentary at all to go along with it.

It's about the slanting of the question. If the question had been "do you think Bill Gates is a Nazi?" then you could similarly argue it was just a question but that would be ignoring the obvious bias. It's the same with "do you hate Apple?", as the implication is that Apple is worthy of hate. Further, the limited options meant that people who dislike Apple would rather click "yes" than "no", despite there being a significant difference between 'hate' and 'dislike'. By limiting the possible responses and slanting the question it's basically ensuring that the poll favours the "yes" outcome.

It's not a big deal to me - I've seen worse on Neowin and on other sites - but I do think it is worthy of discussion, particularly as so few seem to understand the issues.

Its called learning to tolerate others and their views...whether you like it or not. I am sure there are things you do that others do not like. Goes back to what my parents told me when growing up...dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. Yes, sometimes things get out of hand ,but when it happens more often than not...then you have a problem.

I know people who likes American Idol, Soap Operas, Bad Girls Club, and yes,,,WWE. To each their own. They are not making me watch it or forcing it on others, so it really doesnt impact me.

And people trolling and posting certain comments are not doing so to show their intelligence. They do so to stirr up trouble. An intelligent person would be able to post maturely without causing any kind of back lash.

Let me tell you something. The poll was not there to fuel the fire and incite flame wars. The poll was all fine until the angry fanboises and the whiners came here and started to cry like a baby because they don't like to hear bad things about their loved company. That's the problem.

If you feel the question is there to wake up trolls, then it's the trolls problem for not being able to control them self and act like a normal person.

Mephistopheles, this guy is also providing my point :)

The question was "Do you hate apple?" was it not? If so, not a leading question more a direct question.

To be fair, if i walked up to you in the street and asked it, then it could be perceived as leading, however in the context of this forum and attached to a poll, it's not a leading question.

I'd agree with you more if the question had been "Why do you hate Apple?".

You clearly didn't read the page I linked to. It's all explained there.

In common law systems that rely on testimony by witnesses, a leading question or suggestive interrogation is a question that suggests the particular answer or contains the information the examiner is looking to have confirmed.

Scorpus wanted the poll to show that people hated Apple so that he could "create a follow-up editorial on why you shouldn't hate a company" - this was all stated in the OP. He used a leading question to get elicit the result he desired. Unsurprisingly it backfired and generated a lot of hostility.

You clearly didn't read the page I linked to. It's all explained there.

Sorry, i updated my post before you quoted it. I updated to explain what i meant a bit more clearly.

Not totally disagreeing with you, more realizing it's a bit of a grey area.

    • The fact that memory in general is so high I have to take a loan out to build a computer now is just beyond stupid. Who's really to blame here? Low supply or high demand?
    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk.
