EA has confirmed that this year?s Madden will be called Madden NFL 25. The name comes as a celebration of the franchise?s 25th anniversary and confirms a tease that EA sent out yesterday.

?There?s no better way to celebrate and mark the culmination of 25 years of innovation than by naming this year?s game Madden NFL 25,? said EA Sports general manager of American football Cam Weber. ?This year?s game will push the boundaries with gameplay and feature innovations that will lay a very strong foundation for the next 25 years of this storied franchise.?

EA has also revealed that the American football series has sold roughly 99m units, which translates to a lifetime revenue of $3.7bn.

The original John Madden Football was released back in 1988 on personal computers, and the NFL license was picked up for the series with Madden 94.

Fans will be able to vote for the cover of Madden NFL 25 based on a bracket of 32 ?all-time NFL greats? versus 32 modern day NFL players. Voting will begin on March 11th on ESPN.

Madden NFL 25 will hit stores on August 27th.

Not quite sure about the "innovations." But exciting news nonetheless, for me at least.

I just hope Dan Marino is a vote option. :D Though I am betting Joe Montana will win. I still stand by that Dan Marino is and will always be better than Montana. He just never had a good defense, nor a Jerry Rice type player, yet still hosed defenses. :p

Jim Brown should win or maybe Montana or Rice. There should be a truly legendary player in that cover. Sorry Perfect72, but Marino, without a ring, dont cut it in my book.

But actually I would like a multiplayer cover. How about all time AFC greats vs NFC greats?

Long Live NFL2K

NFL2K5 still has an excellent supporting community sharing up-to-date rosters and game settings with each other.

Madden, to me, will forever be synonymous with McDonald's bags on the side of every road, Michael Bay films, Nickleback, and everything else wrong with pop culture.

Madden is a (pathetic) monopoly and EA is an acronym for Evil A**holes.

Well, I don't disagree with you. I don't like professional basketball (NBA. Only like NCAA) but I still play NBA 2K13 because 2K Sports makes an incredible product.

But that isn't entirely Madden's fault that EA and the NFL have an agreement (read: monopoly) on NFL games. No one can compete, because they aren't allowed too, with the exclusivity contract they have together, barring another developer from using any likeness to the NFL, except EA. You can blame the NFL just as much as you can blame EA for signing this contract.

Supposedly this contract will be up in 2014 if I recall. But I am sure both sides will come to another agreement. I don't think it is right, and I hate it. But I want to play an up to date football game, not Tecmo Bowl or a game from 8 years ago. It sucks, but it is the world we live in.

    • Depends on what you need. Might be a bit clearer on what you plan to do with it. Sort of a waste if you get the newest and greatest, but don't know how to use it.

    • Hi everyone, I'm planning a small network upgrade and was wondering how others prepare their networks for future needs. Do you usually invest in higher-speed switches and better cabling from the start, or do you upgrade only when necessary? I'd be interested in hearing what has worked well for you and any lessons you've learned over time. Thanks!
