Apple received some bad news last Friday regarding its infamous bounce-back patent, US 7,469,381. That's one of the technical utility patents Samsung was found to infringe at trial, and it's been the subject of a formal reexamination process at the US Patent and Trademark Office since last July. In October each and every claim of the '381 patent was initially rejected. On Friday, however, the USPTO issued what's called a "final" action in the reexamination

"Until then, there's little doubt that Apple will continue to deem it valid and use it to keep Samsung and others from implementing the feature."

We'd have to wait for the "final" final rejection by the US patent office for this to stop happening altogether.

I'm personally on Apple's side in regards to this one (even though I'm an Android user). The iOS window manager was quite an achievement for a mobile platform at the time. They deserve royalties, but not over half a dollar for each device sold.

If anything i'm sorta happy that Apple had a patent which forced Google to create another option which is the blue fade highlight they do now (on stock Nexus devices, not sure what HTC changes). I think the edge blue highlight looks waaaay better than the overscroll bounceback that is on the iPhone. That's just my opinion though :)

I like both but the motion of the bounce back is more organic feeling. Still, do love that blue ... better on dark than on light apps.

We will all be dead and gone before they ever finish this game.
