The sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie is currently being written, actor Simon Bird has confirmed.

Speaking at the launch of his new Sky1 comedy Chickens, Bird said that a second film is on its way, but warned fans that it may take a while before it arrives at cinemas.

"Yes we are doing another movie, but writing it takes a lot longer than people assume," said Bird, according to What's On TV.

"When the last movie was such a success, people think you can just go ahead and do another just like it straight away. But the writers have to have time to work on the script and come up with ideas.

"I also think us actors wanted just a little bit of a break."

The first Inbetweeners movie, which was released in 2011, was a huge box office hit and rumours of a follow-up have circulated ever since the first film was released.

Bird's Inbetweeners co-star Blake Harrison told Digital Spy earlier this year that he would like to thank the fans with a second movie because "there is obviously a passion for it".

Writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris hinted that an Inbetweeners sequel was on the cards earlier this year, telling fans they hoped to have a "final film some time next year".

It will be interesting where they will go with it.

They can't do another lads holiday. It would have to be something like first year at uni.

They all won't go to the same uni though, so perhaps a big party in the summer holidays (do uni's do that?)

Whatever happens, it'll be good. They haven't put a foot wrong with that show.
