Atomic Wanderer Chicken
This is frightening! To put it in prospective, an EF5 Tornado has 200mph winds. (CNN) -- Super Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever observed, made landfall Friday morning in the Philippines, the country's weather service reported. Thousands of people in vulnerable areas of the central Philippines were evacuated as the monster storm spun toward the country. With sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph) and gusts as strong as 380 kph (235 mph), Haiyan churned across the Western Pacific into the Philippines. Its wind strength makes it equivalent to an exceptionally strong Category 5 hurricane. Haiyan will move over the many islands of the central Philippines over the next 18 hours before exiting into the South China Sea overnight Friday into Saturday. Haiyan will weaken slightly as the storm crosses land, but forecasters with the Philippine weather agency, Pagasa, predict that it will maintain super typhoon intensity throughout its passage of the islands. The storm, known as Yolanda in the Philippines, is so large in diameter that clouds from it are affecting two-thirds of the country, which extends over 1,850 kilometers (1,150 miles). Mr. Gibs
To put into perspective... Katrina had peak winds of 175mph. The strongest Atlantic hurricane had peak winds of 190mph. fusi0n 1 Share

Boo Berry
I'm guessing the people. Part of me selfishly and carelessly wishes I was there in the Philippines to see the storm (I'm crazy like that) but the logical (and human) part of me hopes everyone gets through it okay. rfirth
Pretty amazing storm, had an awesome satellite presentation, amazing ring of very cold cloud tops that extended into the stratosphere. I'm disappointed that there were no reconnaissance aircraft flights to verify wind speed and minimum central pressure. Very dangerous storm. I see some estimates of the death toll exceed 1200. You can track this storm and all tropical cyclones in every ocean using my app for Windows 8/RT: http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/hurricane-tracker/1b8a9150-fc39-4ceb-aeee-d7b6abb0fb02 Or Windows Phone:http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/hurricane-tracker/09edd4cd-238c-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8 As you can see, it has weakened considerably and is now at category 2 off the coast of Vietnam.
