Which laptop?

Which laptop should I buy?

It's for university and some gaming, budget is $2000.

I've been looking at lenovo and msi workstations and some other brands, too much choice D:

Might seem like a weird question, but how portable would you like it to be?

Are you actually planning to carry it around?

Are you always going to be near a power outlet, or do have any requirements for how long it can run on battery?

You ever look at university's Laptop sales? They normally have good deals.

University offers hp zbook 15 with low configured specs which I'm not very fond of :/

I saw the dell xps 15 and it's on my list.

Looking for a15inch laptop.

What kind of gaming will you do, and at the university will you have specific programs running other than an office suite? (Thinking about Cad or rendering software).

i'd say anything by Asus laptops ROG edition, best bang per buck IMO, I would stray from away from major brands like alienware, you are basically paying for brand name

1 Yr International Warranty & 1 Yr Accidental Damage Protection

cheaper version:

Your decision would be easier if you nail down more requirements. For example my next laptop must have a minimum of 32 gig RAM which narrows the field a lot. Then the graphics card can be a limitation. Some models from Alienware, Origin etc allow upgrading the CPU and the Graphics card later on which some people appreciate.

Then there is fashion - thin, light etc - People will complain about 2.1 lbs vs 2.6 lbs and then spend an hour a day at an exercise club lifting heavy weights - why not buy a 20 lb laptop, carry it around all day and save the hour! That way you get your 16 core Xeon anywhere you want it!

I ended up with a Lenovo Y50-70 with an i7, gtx860m, 16gb ram and a uhd display.

It has a numpad which is a big requirement in my opinion and it's known for not getting very hot at a high load.

Returned it, yellow was mustard green on the display which also started to show signs of edge bleed.

I ordered a asus zenbook pro ux501 which was a bit more expensive. I'll be getting it monday.

Stay tuned for my experience with that :p

Not sure about warranty in NL but in Germany laptops tend to get 2 year warranties. Especially worth it if you need a fan / keyboard replacement after the first year is up.

You never know if some tipsy girl during study hour might spill some malibu coke on your precious keys either. Always good to have new buttons to push...

Got insurance on it and the shop offers 3 year warranty. The NL law only allows for 2 years warranty at minimum with the exception of 2nd hand products, refurbished products etc.

Best laptop I've ever had, it's amazing and ridiculously fast.
