Shetland Posted April 30, 2005 Share Posted April 30, 2005 The PS3 looks very capable, I will most probably get an Xbox 2 though; Either way, many developer's i have spoken with have said that they are now so close that most content can work on both system's just as well (i.e polycount's, texture sizes etc) therefore, its going to be a case of which you prefer using i guess. neufuse: I can tell you, as a games artist that those are entirely possible on current generation system's. the thing is that, these are er... benchmark type scene's, you would be limited to a level about the size of a room if you were to cram that much detail into it, i know for a fact the xbox 1 can handle a small scene of that quality. All it is is a good lighting engine combined with either realtime reflectivity or a cubemap, and highish polygon models coupled with a normal map for that extra bit of detail. of course, as said before it would only wor on a very small scene otherwise it would start killing your framerate.. and it would be already anyway; so yeah, impractical but possible. We are fans of the playstation so dont like it go away!Not sure if this is official but heres the specs *Cellular Processors - powerPC *8 APUs - Vectorial Processors each with 128K memory *System will run at 4GHZ or 256Gflops *1024 Bit switched front side bus *64MB of switching memory 585855188[/snapback] Yeah these are the kinda specs I'm reading about too..nothing concrete as of yet...the only difference is one site is suggesting there are 4 of these CELL processors in the system with 64Mb of RAM for each Processor (256Mb total)..I mentioned this in another thread but it seems the general consensus is there is only one 1 processor...and it was suggested that the speed of each of the processors was in excess of 4Ghz...anyway I'm happy to go with the idea that it is generally beleived there is only going tobe 1 CELL in the PS3 just wanted to bring this to light as another possiblity to what we might see. Please note this information is based from a site that is not offically endorced or supported by Sony and I am in no way trying to pass this off as fact, just wanted to say that to make it clear for the guys that might flame me for not getting my facts straight...cause they arn't facts...just ponderings!
