I didn't see this thread until now :o

I built a TARDIS on the unofficial Neowin server: http://map.dynamicsq...rldZ=-68&zoom=1

I also built a Menger Sponge, though that's less impressive: http://map.dynamicsq...rldZ=278&zoom=1

The server is, at the moment, vanilla with a new map, while we wait for all the server plugins to be updated. I'll take some real screenshots when the map is back to normal.

Start in singleplayer with mobs turned off (set difficulty to Peaceful). Then use the wiki ( http://www.minecraft...t/wiki/Crafting ) to find out how to make some basic stuff.

The whitelist on servers is used to prevent griefing. You just need to ask an admin to whitelist you.

Ya dude, It'll take a while to get used to it but then you'll love it. I learnt to play via some YouTube Videos 'Surviving your first night in minecraft' is a great one.

and then you can start creating your world like you did on the free version just now you will have to manually get the resources (which is really half the fun)

that takes all the fun out of it.

I play on a private server that we are a True survival server, mobs are turned on (pvp is not) and there is only one OP so no one can cheat and give themselves items.

Not necessarily. It depends on the player. On our server, we have infinite supplies. The point is to build cool stuff. Survival is fun, but it's not the only fun way to play.

we have a creative server as well, that has castles, menger sponges, pyramids and the like as well as all sorts of amazing things. I spend most of my time on the survival server though :p
