Did The Woz buy a Lumia 900?

The Lumia 900 has gotten a ton of press over the past week, and most of it has been good so far. Meanwhile, AT&T claims that the first week of sales for Nokia's Windows Phone device has actually exceeded their expectations. Now it looks like one of the most well known people in the tech industry is at least going to try out the device.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak posted up word on his Twitter page today that he was "awaiting opening of AT&T to see if Lumia 900 available." The message was posted at a nearby Denny's in Gilroy, California.

"The Woz" is well known for waiting in line just like everyone else to get his hands on the latest Apple products like the new iPhone or iPad, even though Apple would likely send him a free unit if he asked. However, he has never been one to play favorites and the fact that he's at least interested in getting the Lumia 900 shows that the smartphone has his attention.

As of this news post, it's unknown if Wozniak has actually purchased the Lumia 900 by now. Hopefully he has and will give his initial impressions of the smartphone.

Forget the Woz and all his Apple fanatic haters. Everyone who sees my Lumia asks about it and asks to hold it and fall in love. It's a winner. Let's see if MS has learned how to market properly.

The guy is humble and really speaks sense and without bias (though I won't fault him for leaning more on Apple) To those that don't get Woz, maybe you were born in the late 90's and only know Zuckerberg from that movie you saw..

seriously people, The Woz is a bigger deal than Jobs if you ask me. Without Jobs there would still have been Apple or at least something similar, without Woz not so much.. Seems there is a lot of folks here too young to know their computing history.. Most of you would probably also go ' So who cares Dennis Ritchie dies same month Jobs did, who the f**** is he anyway'

Get a life already ;^/

To be honest both of them were needed to get Apple off the ground and Woz' contributions are often underrated, but without Steve Jobs I very much doubt the Apple 1 would have been seen by more than a hundred tech enthusiasts at the time. Woz didn't wan't to sell it he just wanted to share his achievements with his friends

Yes, woz loves gadgets, but he doesn't just grab at "anything". he picks ones that look promising and interesting. in this case, he shows he has taste

So what would you say if all OSX users would do that on every Microsoft related news? Would it be OK, as they feel that this is a waste of space on the front page, or would it be just an annoyance?

So, who cares?!

Judging from how you're taking the time and trouble to reply to the article, you do, obviously.

No. I saw the title. Thought immediately it was a waste of time to be on the front page and came here to make that clear.

Funny how it's always the people who supposedly Don't Care(tm), who must go out of their way to be absolutely sure that other people know clearly that they Don't Care(tm). It just never fails.

I'm sure he did. Woz, though a supporter of Apple, has openly talked about his love of all kinds of gadgetry. Brands just don't matter to him like they do to so...SO many others.

I would have been much more surprised had he not picked one up. He owns every other kind of phone already, anyway. I don't even think this is his first WP7 device.

Exactly. He's a true tech enthusiast and any new hardware of software he wants to try out. It's the same reason I own a Nokia 710 now (cheap WP, to check out WP7) and the reason most people on Neowin inevitably end up installing Windows 8 just to see what its like

I'm sorry news dudes, but really, who gives a stuff what a guy who left Apple all those years ago does with his life? Especially what phone he wants to use.

So I suppose when all those stories about BillG not allowing iDevices was reported, you were saying the same thing then? And I suppose when the pictures claiming that his daughter had an iPhone, you were complaining about being forced to read those stories also?

I agree. I had a rant in the Back Page News thread about this nerd being regularly mentioned in the news because he has a new mobile device. IMHO, this isn't even back page news let alone being front page.

I haven't actually seen a news article about the iDevice thing with the Gates family. I have heard about it, and you're right, I still don't give a ****.

As for his daughter having an iPhone, I didn't even know he had a daughter. Bill Gates isn't my friend, I don't need to know the ins and outs of his personal life.

If you did not see the articles about not allowing iDevices, then you don't read much, do you?

A few questions - what are your requirements before something becomes a news story? What high standards need to be met before they become Nashy approved? And I suppose NeoWin needs to contact you for your approval before they run any story, because, after all, you obviously are the person who needs to decide what is, and what is not, a real story. And can I be part of this board of who decides what is a story? There are many stories that do not interest me here on NeoWin. I either just don't click on the story, or I read them just to inform myself, but apparently you are the one to decide what is in my best interest.

Maybe the editors here should start putting a "Nashy Approved" flair button on articles that you read so the rest of can just skip over it, since the other stories are obviously of no importance.

I don't think you seem to understand what this article is. It's an article about a nerd buying a phone.

If Neowin is reporting on this kind of thing, I'm wonder why the thousands of posts of Neowin's users about their new phones aren't reported on the front page.

Apple Co-Founder. He's ****ing nothing now days. He's a regular guy who bought a new friggin phone. Who the hell cares.

I want articles written up for everyone on Neowin because I'm as interested in that as I am in this nobody buying a new phone.

Steve Wozniak has a cult following around here because... well... I don't know.

I don't see Woz having a cult following - I just see a person who has a big name, who has bought a number of different devices (which was reported when he got an Adroid device, who was reported on when he waits in line to get an iPhone or iPad, etc) is buying a Nokia WP7. Showing that device is getting big enough for him to buy.

And as for only having articles that everyone wants to read, there are countless articles about new Apple rumors, or after an Apple press circus some feature uses a different color, do not interest me. But I just skip over them. If every article needs to be interesting to all people, then there would not be any article, since they all do not interest everyone.

I'm going to pretend this is also directed at me.

News sites like Neowin need feedback, therefore, we as the readers provide feedback in the comments section. Other users then provide feedback on reader's feedback stating whether their feedback is justified and adding their own opinion. With this reader feedback, Neowin can adjust and ensure they keep the majority of readers interested (and relevant). As I can see, you disagreed with the reader's feedback and brought the Bill Gates story up which was fair, and was answered with "I also do not care".

The reason I originally commented was because I believe that the majority of people here do not care. I personally do not care for the majority of WP news here, however, I know that WP is relevant and interesting to a lot of people on this site and therefore I do not read or comment on them. I also believe that this "celebrity gossip" type of news being reported on the front page brings Neowin down to levels such as the Daily Mail (sorry Neowin). If you disagree, then reply with something more constructive - you may even change my mind on the subject.

He is just a big tech nerd. He go the Galaxy Nexus back in December as well. It is just filler news really. The real news was when he said how Android does certain things better than the iPhone. Will he do that with the Lumia? Time will tell.

Getting big enough for him to buy? What is he, the king of friggin England. He's a guy who left a company before it became huge, and somehow people think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, or that his opinion matters.

Maybe when he writes a real review, report that. But seriously, making a news article about a bloke buying a new phone. Absolute waste of time and space.

It seems like you have absolutely no idea what he had already achieved before getting 30… It was Woz who started the PC revolution…

And? That means the world give sa **** about his mobile phone? Seriously, give his previous achievements a break. he's done absolutely nothing since someone with a brain decided making money from his product ****ed him off.

Amazing that, because Dennis Ritchie did more than a whole lot of people, but the only news article I've EVER seen on neowin about him was when he died.

And that disqualifies Woz's achievements? Let's start talking about those that did even more than Richie (there are quite a lot of them) then, 'cause nobody talks about them ever… Want to know what's the difference? People that have no idea about PCs are more likely to know Woz than Richie…

You know, nobody forces you to read anything on the internet… Maybe somebody does care about what phone he uses - who are you to judge whether or not that is a valid interest?

You do know what this guy has done right?
If it wasnt for him
1: PCs would not have been made the way they are today
2: Apple would not have exploded to what it is today

I mean, seriously, who are you again?

And that's probably because he kept a low profile. He wasn't exactly putting himself out in the spotlight, or posting photos of his latest gadget acquisitions. Also, no one was discrediting Richie in anyway.

Nice try, though.

He's a guy who left a company before it became huge, and somehow people think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, or that his opinion matters.

As others have stated, he did a lot more than leave a company before it became huge, but you can keep on truckin' through Ignorantlantia.
