Games on Xbox Backward Compatibility program gain cloud play support

Xbox backward compatibility via cloud

Microsoft today announced an expansion to its Backward Compatibility program's catalog, and it's not an injection of new titles. The company is beginning to introduce cloud play support for its original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles on Android phones and tablets.

"Today we’re embarking on a new journey for the backward compatibility program: Taking it to the cloud," revealed the company today. "Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can now tap into a collection of favorites from the past in a whole new way — right on mobile devices, turning them into retro handheld game systems."

The first group of games gaining the capability includes quite a few hits including Elder Scrolls III and IV, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, Fallout New Vegas, Perfect Dark, Gears 2, 3, Judgement, and more, totalling 16 additions, with some even having official touch controls.

The company will keep expanding this list going forward as well. See the games gaining cloud play support today below:

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Banjo-Tooie
  • Double Dragon Neon
  • Fable II
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Gears of War 2
  • Gears of War 3
  • Gears of War: Judgment
  • Jetpac Refuelled (touch controls enabled)
  • Kameo
  • Perfect Dark
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • Viva Piñata (touch controls enabled)
  • Viva Piñata: TIP (touch controls enabled)

Microsoft said the addition of games from previous Xbox generations to cloud play "has been one of the most requested features by the community." Also, thanks to the newer hardware that the games are running on, quicker loading times and better frame rates are expected as well.
