Intel to up AGP bandwidth in 2003

With the support of ATI and Nvidia behind them, chipset/processor giant, Intel plans on taking the Advanced Graphics Port to the 8x (2.1GB/sec) in 2003.

Experts say that the move to 8x is a little premature seeing that most desktop users will never use the headroom provided by the 8x AGP. In response to these critics Intel remarks that building the new AGP slot before the user needs such performance is needed, is a precautionary measure.

The new AGP 8x will not be receiving a physical make over and will be backwards computable with your current cards.

This is not news but speculation

If Intel decides to release the 8x AGP slots in 2003, it may mean the release of a 8x AGP Geforce 5 in 03 as well
