MSI updates its gaming laptops with RTX 30 series graphics

If you've missed it, CES 2021 is taking place this week, and so MSI is introducing its latest lineup of gaming laptops at the event. The new laptops feature Nvidia's new RTX 30 series mobile GPUs, so you'll be getting the latest and greatest. There are also some models with Intel's new H35 series of processors, which have a 35W TDP and fit into smaller bodies.

At the top of the lineup is the GS66 Stealth, which is a relatively minor refresh, mostly just updating the graphics inside. It comes with up to a Core i9-10900HK, and up to an RTX 3080 Max-Q (but not both in the same model). It has up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD for storage, and the displays come in both 300Hz and 240Hz variants, all being Full HD resolution. The refreshed GS66 Stealth starts at $1,799.

Next up are the new GE76 and GE66 Raider, being 17-inch and 15-inch versions of the same laptop. These models feature MSI's Mystic Light on the front for extra flashiness, and they come with some goodies like a Full HD webcam. MSI says this is because it recognizes the increased demand for webcams nowadays, and it could also be useful for streaming. These laptops come with up to an RTX 3080 and a Core i7-10875H (or a Core i7-10870H for the GE66 Raider). They also come with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. Both offer Full HD displays with either 300Hz, 240Hz, or 144Hz (only for the GE76) refresh rates. Both the Stealth and Raider series also have 99.9Whr batteries, the legal maximum you can carry on an airplane. The GE76 Raider starts at $1,499 and the GE66 Raider starts at $2,199.

MSI also announced the GE76 Raider Dragon Edition - Tiamat, a special version of the laptop with a textured finish inspired by Babylonian culture. Tiamat is known as the mother of all gods, and it's the inspiration for this design. This edition also comes with a 4K 60Hz display option, though pricing wasn't announced for this specific version.

Going further down the line we have the GP76 and GP66 Leopard. These have a more subdued design without the lighting at the front edge and a more toned down MSI logo so it's not as striking in public. There's only one 17-inch model available, with a Core i7-10875H and an RTX 3070, but the 15-inch variant comes with up to an RTX 3080 paired with a Core i7-10870H. They come with 65Whr batteries, up to 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The 17-inch variant has a 300Hz Full HD display, while the 15-inch model has 240Hz or 144Hz options. The GP76 Leopard costs $2,299, and the GP66 starts at $1,799.

If you're more interested in something a bit thinner, there's also the GF75 and GF65 Thin, which cut back on graphics power for something that's easier to carry. They come with up to an Intel Core i7-10750H and an RTX 3060 (some with Max-Q designs). They have up to 16GB of RAM and the GF65 Thin has up to a 1TB SSD, while the larger GF75 has up to a 512GB SSD paired with a 1TB HDD. All the models have a 144Hz Full HD display. The GF65 Thin starts at $999, while the GF75 Thin starts at $1,299.

If you want even thinner and more discrete, MSI has also brought a major refresh to the Stealth 15m. The big news here is that MSI is using Intel's brand-new H35 series - specifically the Core i7-11375H - while the previous Stealth 15m was using U-series Tiger Lake processors, plus the GTX 1660 Ti has been replaced with an RTX 3060 Max-Q. These are MSI's thinnest and lightest gaming laptops, coming in at just 16mm (0.63 inches) of thickness, and the new model should be much more powerful. Because these are 11th-generation processors, you also get Thunderbolt 4 support. The Stealth 15M has up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, and a Full HD 144Hz display across the board. It starts at $1,399.

Finally, for creators, there's the new Creator 15. These 15-inch laptops come with a Core i7-10870H and either an RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 Max-Q, but the big focus here is the display. It's a 4K 60Hz panel with 100% Adobe RGB coverage with individually calibrated colors. The Creator 15 comes with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, and it starts at $1,899.
