Skype Insiders can now get read receipts for their messages

The Skype team at Microsoft has announced that it's starting to roll out a new feature to Insiders, allowing them to see when their messages have been read by the recipient. This kind of feature is far from new for anyone who has used any other messaging service for the past few years, as Skype has been trailing to its competitors in this aspect, but it's finally here.

The implementation here is most similar to what's found on Facebook's Messenger app with little "heads" popping up underneath the message to indicate that a user has read it, making it especially useful in groups where it's important to know which members have read the message. Unfortunately, availability in groups is only available for those with 20 members or fewer, but this could change in the future.

Of course, the privacy conscious can opt to not sent read receipts, which will also disable them for other contacts. Contacts also won't be able to see if you've read a message if you're using Skype in invisible mode, allowing users to keep a low profile.

The feature is available starting with version 8.26.76 of the Skype Preview app for Android and iOS, as well as the modern desktop clients for Windows, Linux, and macOS. This, unfortunately, does not include the new Skype app for Windows 10 which Insiders received with build 17704 last week, but hopefully, the company aims to achieve feature parity sooner rather than later.
