Windows Phone gets updated Facebook app

No matter what smartphone you own, the Facebook app is always one of the most used and downloaded for any such device. Windows Phone users should be able to download a new version of the Facebook app to a new version from the Windows Phone marketplace. The update, version 2.3, has a number of new features and changes that have suggested by Windows Phone Facebook users.

According to a post on the Windows Phone Facebook page, the new 2.3 version has a new panorama design along with a new profile design. There have also been some improvements in the app's news feed performance along with improvements in navigating through the app. Users can now check out Facebook Groups for the first time in the Windows Phone version as well as visit individual pages. You can finally view who has "liked" one of your Facebook comments or posts in the 2.3 version of the app.

Other changes include adding feed filters, adding support for posting privacy as well as a number of bug fixes.

The Windows Phone Marketplace has been slowly expanding on the number of apps it has to sell and download, although the pace has accelerated in the past few months. In late January it was reported that over 60,000 apps had been released for Windows Phone users.

Better but not great. Still can't delete a post. Still way behind iOS. Too bad WP7 can't properly render the full touch.facebook.com site and get all the functionality of the iOS app.

Timeline is odd at first but once you get used to it really great and really great on iPhone. Timeline is much nicer on mobile device than legacy interface.

Welcome update, but still waiting for full HTML rendering to run touch.facebook.com and end this wait.

App out! just updated.. gonna launch.

wow.
So it asked me to login my details. So its a completely new app it seems. Totally redone!!! FINALLY!! The design seems really nice now. Liking it.
News feed performance improved alot.

I still cant find my page on it. so ill still be using the touch facebook site for that. Anyhow. Updates always welcome.

Go to Marketplace. Search for Facebook. Tap on it. Tap the Share button. Tap the back button to go back to the info page. Update should now be available.

Not out for me yet in the UK

Not showing as an update for me, I just uninstaled and searched for it and hey presto (took 2 minutes). Its very nice, and NOT a minor update - complete redesign!!

Why do they always announce apps before they are posted?

They announce the app when it passes marketplace certification and gets placed in the marketplace listings - but the listings only usually get updated once a new (usually sometime after 17:00 GMT)

Nothing to brag about if you've seen the amount of bull**** in the WP marketplace. WP users, if you're in the States, click into the marketplace and go to the "entertainment" section. First thing that pops up is nothing but porn apps. Keep venturing around, and you'll see nothing but Chinese apps, and apps that have little to no function. It's like searching through a landfill to .1 ounce of gold.

It's nothing like the amount of bull**** in the Android Market though!!!

Amazing amounts of dung in every marketplace. Exponentially more crap in both the iOS and Android markets.

lol, have you seen for how long they have been compared to the competition? The competition was pretty bad themselves when they were relatively new. I agree, the WP Marketplace is yet to mature big time but you need to calm the **** down, bro.

theres no PORN app in WP marketplace. And i agree many apps are useless or me 2 apps. Rest of them are catching up. You will find almost every useful app. Just search for the term.

It's hardly that bad. I have no problem whatsoever finding good apps in the Marketplace that fit my needs.

Do fitness much? Part of the proble is poor support for USB devices. Apple has made it easy for developers to add things like Heart Rate Monitors, Blood Pressure Monitors, etc. And full support for Bluetooth devices such as the new Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitors. MS has not done enough in this area. Apparently many of the directors at MS are old, boring, shareholder types with no idea what people who use their smartphones as a lifestyle device need.

Having said that, when the apps are there, and full Bluetooth device/APIs are there, Windows Phone and it's hardware are clearly superior. Can't wait to see it on Tablets. I got a Samsung Galaxy tab today and OMG, I'd rather use my Windows Phone. Android OS is garbage and needs like 5 cores to run like Windows Phone. But it does have more apps and all those other things I just mentioned.

Nice, just went to check and seeing as the post is only 2 minutes old, I guess WP7 marketplace just has not updated the app yet.

the actual news of the update is quite some hours old now. . . Update still not in the marketplace though.

Yeah, I don't see it either. It might still need to trickle through or something. Maybe they posted a little prematurely... lol

The update didn't appear as soon as I opened Marketplace, but if you search for the Facebook App, it lets you update it.

Other than changing the general look (which I like), I can't see any major features added...
