Rumors of Ubisoft bringing back one of the fan-favorite Assassin"s Creed games, Black Flag, first appeared back in 2023. Since then, several more reports have shown up that kept mentioning this unannounced remake project. The latest leak is not from an anonymous source though, as the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) ratings board had straight up rated the game.
While the listing has since been taken down, the PEGI website clearly showed the remake with the name Assassin"s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
The fan-favorite entry brought in Edward Kenway as a new protagonist, letting players loose on the high seas for a piracy-themed setting. In addition to the standard stealth action gameplay of previous games, Black Flag brought along a brand-new ship-based exploration and battling system that drew a lot of praise.
The remake is reportedly bringing in RPG elements from Ubisoft"s newer Assassin"s Creed games and adding cut content from the original. However, modern-day gameplay is said to be removed in this version.
Originally released in 2013, the game landed on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U systems shortly before also hitting PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It received a Switch port more recently as well.
Back in 2024, another report surfaced saying that Ubisoft wants to have around 10 Assassin"s Creed games out before 2030. Instead of being full-fledged AAA sequels like Assassin"s Creed Shadows, though, these would be a mix of mainline entries, spin-offs, remakes, and mobile experiences.
While Ubisoft is yet to announce a Black Flag remake, the rating appearance may be a sign that an official reveal is imminent. The Game Awards 2025 presentation is landing in just a couple of days, which may be where the company plans to finally show it off.
