Bose announces the waterproof SoundLink Micro Bluetooth speaker

Bose has just taken the wraps off a new addition to its line of portable wireless speakers, the SoundLink Micro.

The SoundLink Micro is a small speaker, coming in at just 98.3mm x 98.3mm x 34.8mm with a weight of less than 300g. Battery life, as claimed by Bose, is 6 hours of continuous playback on a single charge with a wireless range of up to 9m using Bluetooth.

Packed within such a small profile is a speaker that Bose says "is meant to reproduce sound that’s better than any speaker of its size." Bose says that it has meticulously custom-designed several internal components, and claims that it"s not possible to "make a speaker perform like this one if you don’t engineer it that way from the start."

The speaker is designed to travel along wherever you go, with a tear-resistant strap on the rear which allows it to be attached to backpacks, coolers and bikes.

The speaker also comes with an IPX7 rating, making it able to withstand not only a downpour but also salt water. Bose states on its product page that rather than relying on the design and construction of the housing shell for waterproofing, the internal electronics have been sealed to ensure it stays waterproof from the inside out.

Silicon rubber is used for the speaker"s external casing to improve ruggedness in the case of accidents and falls. The material, according to Bose, "allowed [it] to eliminate as many seams and gaps as possible."

Other features of the SoundLink Micro include a speakerphone with an inbuilt microphone for hands-free communication, the ability to trigger Siri on iOS and Google Assistant on Android with the press of a button, and voice prompts as a guide during Bluetooth pairing along with the ability to remember the last eight paired devices.

Finally, the speaker is also compatible with the Bose Connect App for iOS and Android, allowing users to easily switch between Bluetooth connections or link two of these speakers; there"s "Party Mode" where the connected speakers can play music in sync, and a "Stereo Mode", enabling them to play audio in stereo.

The speaker is currently available for purchase at $109.99 in the US and in the UK at £99.95 on the Bose website.
