Google Vids gets new image-to-video capability powered by Veo 3

Google Vids is an AI-powered video creation app that was made available to Google Workspace customers last year. According to Google, Vids now has over 1 million monthly active users. Since its launch, Google has added several new features and improvements to Vids for its customers.

Today, Google announced a major update to Vids, bringing some of the preview features announced in the past few months to general availability. Back in June, Google announced a preview capability to bring its latest Veo 3 model to Vids. Today, Google announced the general availability of this feature, which allows users to convert their photos into dynamic eight-second video clips with sound.

At I/O earlier this year, Google announced AI avatars. Today, this feature is generally available in Vids, allowing users to write a script and select an avatar to create a video. Some users prefer recording themselves. For those users, Google Vids now has an automatic transcript trim feature that will remove filler words and awkward pauses with just a few clicks. Additionally, Google mentioned that noise cancellation, backgrounds, filters, and appearance options will be generally available next month.

Based on user feedback, Google is also planning to add more sizing formats to Google Vids. This feature will allow users to create videos in portrait, landscape, and square formats.

Vishnu Sivaji, Director, Product Management, Google Workspace, said:

As we continue to make video creation even easier and more powerful for everyone, the response from Vids users has been overwhelmingly positive. We recently introduced the ability to generate eight-second video clips, powered by Veo 3, and now Vids has over 1 million monthly active users, highlighting the appetite for intuitive, AI-driven creative tools.

Google Vids is now available for Google Workspace Business or Enterprise Starter customers, Google AI Pro or Ultra subscribers, and Workspace for Education customers. Today, Google is also announcing that the Vids editor, without Gemini or AI features, is now available to all Google account consumers for free.
