GroupMe, a popular messaging app among U.S. college students, became part of Microsoft through its acquisition of Skype. Despite Skype’s shutdown, development of GroupMe continues. Over the past week, Microsoft has rolled out three key features aimed at improving the GroupMe experience.
Not everything can be effectively conveyed through text. In some situations, voice communication matters more. The latest GroupMe update introduces Voice Messages, allowing users to send messages using their voice. To send a voice message, users simply tap the microphone icon in the compose bar and start speaking. Recipients can listen using playback controls, including options to play messages at normal speed or speed them up as needed.
GroupMe is best known for its group chat experience. School and college students often use GroupMe groups to organize meetups, extracurricular activities, and more. However, keeping up with busy group chats can be challenging. The new Chat Summaries feature helps by providing a concise summary of group conversations, eliminating the need to scroll through hundreds of messages.
Chat Summaries are powered by Microsoft Copilot. According to Microsoft, the feature captures the rhythm of a group’s conversation and dist assuming to recaps that feel natural and relevant. To use the feature, open a group chat in the GroupMe app and tap the summary banner that appears.
Finally, all GroupMe events will now have their own Event Album, created automatically. This feature allows users to collect and share all event photos and videos in one place. Every event participant can contribute media at the highest quality, and Event Albums can also be shared beyond the group via links, QR codes, or social platforms.
You can download the latest GroupMe app update Version 15.28 here from the App Store. This latest update also comes with the ability to create polls inside groups and improved location features.
