Microsoft already offers a couple of subscription options for Microsoft 365 for individuals. Microsoft 365 Personal is designed for single-user scenarios, while Microsoft 365 Family is intended for multiple users.
Recently, Microsoft introduced a separate Copilot Pro subscription that provides preferred access to the most advanced AI models during peak times, higher usage limits, Copilot Labs, and access to Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
Today, Microsoft is launching a new subscription tier called Microsoft 365 Premium, which combines the features of Copilot Pro with the Microsoft 365 Family plan.
The Microsoft 365 Premium plan will offer the following:
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook desktop apps with Copilot built in
- Access to Researcher and Analyst—powerful reasoning agents available in the Microsoft 365 Copilot desktop app today and coming soon to the Word, PowerPoint, and Excel apps.
- Highest usage limits for select features like 4o Image Generation and Voice (coming soon) in the Microsoft 365 Copilot, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook apps
- Highest usage limits for select features like 4o Image Generation, Podcasts, Deep Research, Vision, and Actions in the Copilot app.
- Access to the new Photos Agent in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
- 1 TB of secure cloud storage per person (up to 6 people)
- Advanced security with Microsoft Defender
Consumers can sign up for the new Microsoft 365 Premium plan for $19.99 per month. Existing Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers can also easily upgrade to this new plan if required. Early this year, Microsoft announced its first-ever price increase for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions. After being priced at $6.99/month (Personal) and $9.99/month (Family) since the service launched 12 years ago, the new monthly costs will be $9.99 and $12.99, respectively.
Since Microsoft 365 Premium is a superset of the Copilot Pro plan, Microsoft is discontinuing the Copilot Pro plan. Existing Copilot Pro users can switch to Microsoft 365 Premium at the same price, which offers more value.
Microsoft today also announced that the Frontier program, which offers early access to experimental AI features, is expanding to individual subscribers. So, Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Premium subscribers can now access experimental AI features, including the recently announced Office Agents.
