Microsoft"s Xbox Cloud Gaming service is already available on a massive number of devices, offering game streaming capabilities to almost everything with a screen, including PCs, consoles, mobile devices, and more. Now, the functionality is being extended to vehicles thanks to a partnership between Microsoft and LG. The cloud gaming tech first reached LG TVs only earlier this year.
"Through our collaboration with LG Electronics, we are working to integrate the Xbox experience into select internet-connected vehicles, introducing a new way to bring more of what players love about Xbox into more places," announced Christopher Lee today on Xbox Wire, the Vice President of Xbox Marketing.
Microsoft is using LG"s own webOS Automotive Content Platform (ACP) to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to supported internet-connected vehicles. This will let riders open the Xbox app via the infotainment system, log in to a Microsoft account with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and begin playing games via the cloud immediately. A release date for this cloud gaming upgrade has not yet been announced.
"Our work with LG is the latest example of Xbox expanding to new places, building on partnerships that already bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to mobile devices, PCs, and TVs," adds Microsoft. "By adding vehicles to the mix, we’re giving players more choice than ever in how they enjoy their games."
A Bluetooth-compatible controller, like the Xbox Wireless Controller, will be required to connect to the in-vehicle infotainment and begin playing over the cloud.
Aside from titles included in Game Pass, don"t forget that Ultimate subscribers can also now play some games that they own, like Mafia: The Old Country or Lies of P, from their own library. Xbox Cloud Gaming is also on the way to other Game Pass tiers as well, with testing for Xbox Game Pass Core and Standard currently happening.
